I have a trip planned to the UP for a week after Christmas but that isn't looking to good right now. Just in case that doesn't happen I'm looking for other option like out west. Just wondering what places out west have a good start to the season?

Nothing in the Midwest....
Thats why I'm looking for other areas to the west. I'm in Minnesota and its supposed to be almost 50 on Thursday. I know this winter is young still but the way this fall has gone I'm thinking this winter is not going to be good at all. I'll be lucky if I'm even ice fishing by Christmas.

The lower 48 is getting some snow in the west (at elevation), but each snow event seems to be followed by warmer temps and melting, which equates to more set-up snow. No real good riding reports as of yet. I read that Western Canada was doing alright early on ... places like Revelstoke and some of the surrounding areas have snow, but I haven't heard whether they've continued to receive snow into November and December. The one place that does seem to be having a real winter is Alaska. They've had snow and colder (but still above average) temps, so things aren't as bad as they are here in the midwest. Here's the current snow cover situation in AK: http://aprfc.arh.noaa.gov/sd_all_sites.html

An aside to all of this ... A buddy of mine called me yesterday to see if I wanted to pull him waterskiing on Christmas day, as our lake is completely without ice at the moment, and next week's temps look to remain above freezing. I told him to get his boat and an ambulance ready!

Check out Grand Lake Colorado. Excellent trails 34" base on the trails and 300 miles of groomed trails also.

Yeah I here Colorado has been getting decent snow. I'm actually heading to Togwotee in less then a week. They have 4 ft on the ground at the lodge and they told me the higher you go up the better it gets. Should be a good trip.
