I currently own a 07 Apex Mtn and have been thinking about turbocharging or supercharging it. Not sure which kit is the right one for me. Looking for your input.

I ride at about 1500-2500ft mainly with a few trips to the Big Horns in WY or West Yellowstone. Also possibly considering Cooke City this year. I would like to try and stay with pump gas if possible.

So turbo or supercharger? Which kit? And why?

How do you like to ride? WHat are you expecting out of the kit, do you want as much power as possible, simplicity, etc etc. Give us some more info and im sure we can help you out, as there are many knowledged people on this forum. I have built many of both and have my preferences to which kit i like but the next guy might want something elses o fill us in and we will do our best!

I like to boondock, side hill, hillclimb, drift busting, and get on the lakes and just go. Where we ride you can do a little of anything. Not big hills around here but there is some to be found. When we hit lakes or stubble fields its fun to just open it up and let it rip too.

In the mountains boondocking and hillclimbing.

I also ride in temps at -20F to 40F by the end of the season.

Basically I'd like to get the most power possible with reliability a big factor. Also don't want it right on the edge of having to have good vs bad pump gas.

Have yet to see a turbo setup in person. Simplicity would be nice but I'm also not scared to research or do a little wrench tuning.

In a PM I got about this they mentioned local support. Closest dealer that sells anything turbo is about 2hrs or so away and they sell MCXpress supposedly.

Feel free to ask any ?'s to help decide on which would be best for me.

Turbo, you have the ability to easily drop boost pressure if 91 octane is all there is to get.

SC for simplicity

I'm a turbo guy ..... so that's what I would go with :-)

MPI's SC kit is state of the art, 100% solid and tested. Its simple, clean, and removable when you go to sell the sled.

Turbos require a little more work, some have issue with headers, but you can adjust boost on the fly (remember that means you need to re-clutch, adjust fuel box, etc most dont say that)

I'm a SC man myself I drive hundreds of miles to go riding I backpack into the bush for a week at a time and the SC gives me more confidence then a turbo. I also dont want attention from the DNR especially if I have been drinking a little with a different exhaust that some turbos require. The only thing that tells anyone I have a 240 rocketship is the little logo on my hood saying GT-S

Good luck

So basically a SC is stuck running a set amount of boost, whereas a turbo you can change on the fly?

What about the MCXpress rear mount turbo kit? Is that any good?

How about Boondocker or Powderlites? Haven't read too much about them on here.

What other SC's is there besides MPI?

You can change boost on the mpi but its not easy you have to change the pulleys. Like I said though if you change the boost you need to change the fuel, change the clutching, etc. I built my SC to be 10-11psi on pump gas and just leave it alone. Turbo you can change it all the time depending on what controller you have.

Mcexpress are generally reguarded as being a good kit just expensive.

powderlites looks to have awesome cust service. Boondocker seems to be ok system but the log manifold adds some heat and say good by to stock exhaust and if its too loud for you you have no options.

Do you have low comp pistons in your motor that you can run 10-11psi on pump gas? Or how do you have it setup to run that safely?

Or you can use a prologger. From what Heath told me at MPI; you use the largest pulley, you and your sled/SC can handle, then you can back the pressure down using it with the bypass. Pm him if you are interested. He is a big help

You can do headgaskets, headshoms, or low comp pistons, its up to you or leave it stock.

I have built, rode and had both and im a turbo fan. Mcxpress is a great kit and to be honest i think they have sold more kits then anyone but thats jst a guess but there are alot out there.

Mpi supers are nice and they do have a great product, nothing wrong with it. Instant power and clean setup, cant tell its modified most the time.

I think ease of tuning mcxpress is easier, why because its tuned right from the get go, no buttons to push, fuel to change or altitude to worry about, just gas and go. It does everything well and alot of dealers to help with any questions and since you have one near you all the better.

You can run a dump valve... (I do) so you can run lower boost to 'limp' home using cheap gaz in necessity.

Given choix of turbo kit, I would choose powederlites... but I prefer a good custom mid mount one.... (I wonder why :jump: )

Don't touch boondocker........
