Just wondering what size Trim fits best on the cut fuel tank cover when putting on an Apex seat on the ol' RX. I will be doing this mod this weekend at the cabin and want to make sure i have everything i need to complete the job(nearest store is 30min away). after seeing all the previous posts on this topic, it seems quite easy. I just want to make sure i'm not leaving something simple out. Any tips would be helpful... thank you!

Cant remember if it is 3 1/2 or 3/14, but measure that distance in the middle of the cowl and go from there to the two points at each side. I cut mine with a pair of tin snips and it cut like paper, then i used a small belt sander to finish it up nice. Also i ended up finding some trim at an auto store to protect the seat.
Good luck and you will love the new seat

sure will love the new seat!! Made the RX rideable again, after riding the new Apex. 3-1/2" cut for me. Watch the bottom side when cutting. and have someone hold onto the plastic for ya too, that way it won't wiggle, and he can hand ya a brew when ya need it too!

honk, good idea on the brew! especially since we wont be riding until the next morning! thank you for the cut length, but i was really wondering what the width of the "U"-channel auto trim was. i wont tear into the sled until late Friday night so i cant measure it until i get there. so if anyone recalls what size edging they used that would really help me out.

it comes in different sizes. ie: 1/8", 3/16, 1/4" opening.i havent found anything on the site where this measurement is listed. i know i will have plently of length left over. guess i will just have to upgrade all my other sleds!

I used a blk trim from a old mobile windshield glue w/model glue? 3 rides still on. Be carful cutting tank piece. when you set your seat on make sure you install the bolts in the back, it will change you measurement!!! in front, sit on it also. I did not get mine perfect, Those 2 steps will help your final look. I cut mine w/ a band saw, sanded, filed. Gets some industrial velcro. on final assemble stick some on tank & seat. It realy helped lock the front area. Depending on what seat you get you may need to install a piece of 3/8 alum. stock to get a tight fit. 2.5 x4" W rivets. they go about 6" back from tank. some seats are molded a little different on the part that slides under tank to lock it in. IFso The new seatwill not sit all the way onto tunnel. ( I have seen this W/ a apex mod seat onto a 05 warrior. Mine has a trunk & I did this, it makes your plastic fit better. Your going to need a idea how to change the light connection by the tank. I installed but splices & tape-plug in kind so I can remove seat. , Other thing, with all that removed its a good time to inspect your exhaust dounuts up front. like 2 more nuts the tank comes off?? If you are changing the tail light & hiusing plastic, you will run into more issues, the new trim fits togather a little different to you exhaust covers.?? get some masking tape to mark tank cut.

The trim fits a little different to the exhaust cover, take one of the round ends off the tail pipe. look around the bottem & the width of the flange that the piece you just removed gos over.--they are just a little different.. I needed longer screws to reinstall that exhaust cover. ?? Had to trim/file a little something around the bottem area. As far as the light. get some foam W tape on one side (door or window draft seal) 1"x.5" to secure the light (if its a LED light.) pack it in around it. IT works. whats broke the top or the stop in back.

i dont have it in front of me right now, im at work. but, if i remember right it is the two posts in the rear. i dont know if the sled it came off was hit from the rear(a couple scratches on the plastic cover) or if whoever removed it didnt know what they were doin? do you know what the difference is in the different shaped apex lights are? one is triangular shaped like i have and i have seen others that are long and skinny with a convex shape to them? are they for different years or different models. like gt, rtx, etc.

I did this on my warrior and I love the way it turned out! I kept the rx tail lights because I just thought they looked cool. here is a link to my build thread with lots of pictures for you to check out. http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=45203
