Pulled secondary to clean and grease bearings and now I cannot remember which way the inner sleeve goes in? Help please. Should the metal end go towards the bearing? I would post a picture but i cannot seem to get it to upload. Checked the fiche and manual with no success.

Also, should i torque secondary to 46ft/pds?

Thanks

i dont recall a metal end on that sleeve, its just aluminum. if you do have a steel end on it it is a washer or spacer and would be facing you when installed. thin metal washers or spacers adjust for offset and freeplay on the shaft.

The shaft is all aluminum, so I guess the answer would be either.

If your goal is to replace the shaft the same way it came out, you want to install the end with the spline marks (longitudinal) to the tube/pipe. The end that looks like steel is that way because the spacers between the secondary bolt and the secondary (float spacers) spin opposite of the tube when the secondary backshifts. This action scrubs the spacers on the tube which transfers material to it.

The sleeve is all aluminum, the darker section you think is steel is just dirty aluminum, that end was on the outside where the clutch doesnt extend out so that is why it's dirty.

Thanks. I have installed with dark side out towards me and torque to 45 ft pds. If this is wrong please advise.
