LazyBastard said:Might not be as simple as you think... they gotta figure out which wires to short to activate the starter without blowing a fuse. Remember that there's no pull cord on these and the starter solenoid is hidden down by the battery.
So some theft walkes into a Yamaha dealer and gets and ignition switch and key. Disconnects your switch and puts theirs in and they are off and running.
That switch is not to big to carry around with you...
Anyone know the colors of the kill switch. If I tie into that it will prevent this kinda thing with another switch/key some where hidden....

LOL- Turbo Mike said it! I wal thinking it but didn't have the guts to type it here.
Cable your sleds together when you are away from them for more than a few hours.
And don't park in any area where they can be easily loaded onto a truck or trailer. I laugh at those sledders that park on top of snow bank to "showcase" their sled. How easy it would be to back a pickup truck to the sled and slide her in!

Last year there was 4 of us in in canada we were riding over night and when we got back to the hotel we were staying at the truck and enclosed tralier were gone. IF THE WANT IT THEY WILL TAKE IT! That is what the cops told us. Luckly there were no sleds in the trailer.

There is a good lock for you trailer tongue. Most RV or hitch stores sell them, they have a ball on them which acts like your regular hitch ball and then clamps around the tongue, then get a hitch lock that fits tight enough that you can't get cutters into them.
I believe that if they are going to steal it then you don't really have a hope. But if it's harder to steal yours than the next guy......well sorry about his luck!

Yep, if you lose your tether your screwed, the sled will not go over 2500RPM and will not move ever. The tether cord is programmed into the sleds computer, so without it, it will not move, so stealing it is useless.snappy said:dont the ski doo's have some type of theft deterent key or tether?

Well, not necessarily...Since a good portion of vehicles are stolen for their parts, they could still throw it in a truck, and bring it to the chop shop. Everything with the exception the ignition computer could be sold. Or someone could just get a computer with teather to match.

I have a good anti-theft device: It's called a Polaris EDGE cover LOL
My riding group always makes 3-5 min. sled checks. If you're really worried, try sleeping in shifts.
If it's possible, back your trailer up against a wall or support column snowbank, another vehicle, then lower the tongue and back the truck over it to keep someone from taking it. If they can't turn the tongue, especially if it's between two tires and wedged against the back bumper, then they can't steel it. Chaining a Husky or German Shepard to the tongue would deter them further I'm sure.
BTW: NEVER park a sled near the road even if it has a track lock, lazy thieves will simply hook a rope or chain to the ski or bumper and take off, dragging the sled down the road to where they can load it up out-of-sight.

In another thread people are all pissed off at insurance companies and in this thread everyone is coming out with ideas to save them a claim. Stopping theives is the job of the policeman not the snowmobile rider. Why not just lock them up if they steal them and your trailer and truck and buy brand new with your insurance claim. This is why we buy insurance! If the insurance company gives me a break on insurance for all this deterence stuff I might buy it. Lose a day sledding to get all brand new stuff sounds good to me.

The thief is not going to bother he will sell the engine and other parts for profit and off to steal another.

But all I'm saying, is it's not like he can pull a plug or hotwire it and take off. It's alot more work to steal a DOO. You don't see much of them being stolen. Just ask your local Police in the winter months and see which sleds get stolen more. It's not a DOO. Mostly Cats and Polaris?
