I think the Yamaha F25 outboard is a merc and the merc 115 is a yamaha.

That's why the 25 is crap.

This isn't the case anymore...the mercury/yamaha "sharing" of technology ended about 2 years ago....they aren't on speaking terms any longer .

It wasn't quite that simple. They were all yamaha engine designs, but they were being manufactured by both yam and by merc to the point where to identify who actually built the engine, you would go by the PAINT COLOR on the block... Merc used their typical paintbrush black, the ones built by Yam were green. You would find Yamaha branded engines that were built by merc, and merc branded engines built by yamaha.
