I just picked up oil to do a change and the dealer charged me $8.75 a quart. It's the semi syn 0w30, but this seemed a lot to me. This is my first yamaha so maybe that isn't out of line. BTW it was $14.95 for the filter, that seemed high also, but maybe not. I have used amsoil in my 2 strokes, but don't know about their 4 stroke oil. Any thoughts guys?

Any brand of oil is fine, buy it at your local auto-parts store.
Thats very steep for the filter, should be about $7. This should also be available at your local auto-parts store, though it may be a special order.

I am wondering on which brand to go to when I change my oil. I want to go fully synthetic. Does Shell (Rotella) make a 4 stroke sled oil? Can you use any brand of 0W30 car oil?
Also, does anyone have a part number for a high performance oil filter? If the dealership wants that much, I mind as well go high performance aftermarket....

Ive used REDLINE and like it...especially in the chaincase....however amsoil I use in the harley and it loves it.....so I might go with amsoil next season....
I think going with a 100% synth is smart always...especially since the yammie semi oil is so expensive.

Why not Mobil 1 0-30? Like Yami recommends?

I am sure they are both acceptable, just that the colder the condtions are for startup, the more desirable 0-30 may be.
