Why are Yamaha's exspensive?

Our company was bidding on a contract to supply parts for a new version of the Rhino a couple of years back. After a huge investment in prototype tooling and hundreds of man-hours the project never launched. I was told that it was because of the class action law-suit filed against Yamaha by all the drunk, bullet proof supermen that managed to hurt themselves in one. A dealer told me that Yamaha hasn't lost a case yet but all the legal costs have made it impossible to justify putting any cash into improving the product. They said that the Rhino wasn't any more dangerous than other company's products but because they had the largest market share at the time the suit targeted Yamaha. Just got the cheque today for 7000lbs of scrap aluminum (the prototype tools). We lost our shirts, Yamaha can't innovate and nobody wins except the lawyers.

Dang, this sucks......

Just a quick note, when I was up in Court for a quick case on Friday for a civil action the County I work for had an interest in, it was civil court going on and I had to sit in there for a while.

Maaaaaaan, I watched a couple of divorce hearings, a real estate action, and three personal injury actions. I can say after Friday that I will never, never practice civil law (I do criminal law only usually! 99.9999999879999% of the time......).

Those civil attorneys were truly just all fighting over other people's money. Over and over and over. It was just sickening. Man, fighting about money would darken a guy (or gal's! --- btw, most of those civil attorneys were chicks!!!! One or two of them were actually pretty hot too btw....) heart and soul quickly. There is just so much more to life....

But I am personally quite sorry that your company lost out on a good contract over something like this. I mean, who knows why corporate boards decide what they do, but geeeeez it must be tough to operate a power sports manufacturer in such a sue happy world.

studs are a aftermarket ad on they arnt stock with a sled in no way is this yamaha's fault

Studs or no studs the track would rip you in half if it's going fast enough. Check out the episode of Mythbusters where the truck tread comes off and decapitates the dummy!

I agree --- a spinning track can be deadly studded or not.

But what about this grievous injury was Yamaha's fault. I don't get it. Seems like some drunken idiots trying to get a sled going and lifted up the sled and rev'ed it to get the track spinning, the track splits apart and severely injures one of them. How is Yamaha to blame for this. Was there other facts there we don't know about????? Are comon folk (most jurors and most judges) just this freakin' dumb about how sled's work??????

Yamaha needed better legal counsel to get this across to the jury that the original sled manufacturer is not freakin' responsible for this situation!!!!!!!!

How come when tires explode and cause accidents Firestone gets sued and not the car companies but when the track flies off it's Yamaha's fault? Why isn't Camoplast or Kimpex involved? If this is a manufacturer's issue then why aren't all four being sued as it is just as likely to happen on a Doo? Nothing about this makes sense. They will put a sticker on the back and the next time it happens they will get sued because snow covered it and they should have put it on the side.
