I am trying to figure out the advantages to clutching my sled.

The only things I can come up with are:

A) If your RPM is above or below 11750 at WOT which is our peak HP.
B) If the stock clutching is less effecient due to slippage etc and generates excessive heat.

Are either of these big issues for the Phazer? Has anyone dyno'ed a Phazer before and after a clutch kit? Any gains in track HP?

Will a clutch kit take away from say top speed and add to accelleration or vice versa.... or is it a universal upgrade?

And finally those of you that upgraded, was it honestly worth it, for our sleds?

Thanks guys,

IMO the phazer clutching is pretty good out of the box, and for a lot of folks would be good enough. But for those of us that want that little extra out of the hole, or on the top, the factory setups always leave a little, or a lot to play with.

I have the Ulmer clutch setup. If you go to there site you can see a dyno sheet of before and after. Ulmer's clutching gives a little more on the bottom by raising the engagement some (while not getting unfriendly) and also adds a little to the top.

Eventually I will be adding an exhaust, probably the one from Hartman and some airbox mods. All together these may give an extra 5-10 ponies.

Is it worth it... that's more of a personal thing, but Ulmer's clutch setup is only $115 and they test to take most, if not all the guess work out their products - plug-n-play.

personally, I can never leave good enough alone and like to wrench on my toys. Heck, I even have serious thoughts of the MPI supercharger kit next summer/winter... or I'm getting a Nytro to add to the stable.

On my wifes Phazer FX, 12,000 rpm was regularly seem with stock clutching. The over-rev got worse as the machine broke in and gained power - it has 2700+ miles now. Installed the Ulmer Kit last weekend and noticed shift rpm dropped to 11,400-11,500. She didn't let me ride it enough to report on performance differances. :o|

Mine was doing exactly that^^ Bone stock hitting the rev limiter. I added weight to the flyweights. But a kit is a better idea....
