Hebi, you'll be right with your buddy on his Predator in the tight and twisty stuff.
;)!
Yeah, I was thinking that too. The Predator has about 15-20 more hp than the 350 Raptor does. However, the 350 Raptor is about 40 pounds lighter.
However, the YFZ450 has about 5 more hp than the Predator and weighs about 60 pounds less. Its sooooo temping to get a YFZ450, but that $6900 pricetag is just too much. I cant quite afford to be paying $150 a month for a quad.
It would be funny though. He would poop his pants if I had him come over to check out the new quad and there sat a YFZ 450. The more people I ask about Warriors the more I hear good things about them. I just want something thats dependable, Im not that worried about being able to go 60-70 mph and jumping 50-ft gaps.
I may race it a little bit. The local ATV club here in southern Wisconsin puts on an event twice a year. They have this off-road skills course (you go up and down hills and around corners and the person with the fastest time wins.) They also have drag races and a mud bog event. I would do the skills course, that would be fun. I went last May when they had it, and it was pretty cool. Watched the YFZ450s beat up on Predators and TRX 450s. The YFZs even beat a Quadzilla (Suzuki LT 500). Thats pretty good consider the Quadzilla is a 500 2-stroke.
Anyways, its gonna be fun. I cant wait untill next spring when I can get a 350 Raptor. I hope we get some decent snow this winter so I can have one last good winter with the Phazer, but Im really lookin foreward to April getting here.

Tell us more about the club event, when, where, who can participate etc. Sounds fun to attend if nothing else.

No prob

Its put on by an ATV club called "monkey butt". They have a website at www.monkeybuttatv.com
It was pretty cool. I had been out of the sport for about 4 years. I decided to attend with a woman I worked with at the time, I guess you might call it a date.
Anyways, its just on the outskirts of a town called Janesville in Wisconsin. Its on this guy's farm from the looks of it.
It went from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. I got there at 10:00am and they were doing the kiddie drag races.
The drag track was 50 feet long for the pee-wee classes and 600 feet long for the other classes.
A lot of the kids were real serious about it. I kind of felt bad for some of the kids because their parents were real serious and you could tell it just made the kids more and more nervous. One of the parents was so serious that when the light turned green, he yelled "GO" as loud as he could and the kid just kind of freaked out and didnt go.
Some of the people in the other classes were kind of amusing too. One guy was sitting at the line, waiting for the green, with his engine bouncing off the rev limiter. I think he had a TRX 450. Anyways, the light went green and he dropped the clutch right when the engine hit the limiter. Let me tell you, that engine stalled in an instant. Others did the same thing and most of them did such big wheelies that their engines would almost stall and then lug off the line. You know what they say, "wheelies dont win races."
As the day went on, the drag classes gradually went up in engine size. When they got to the point of the 300s and 400s, I was very interested. I was sitting there watching and just was thinking to myself, "I gotta get a quad, and soon!"
Later on they had a mud bog event, but I thought it was kinda lame. They had a 50 ft long trench that they dug and filled it with water. It started out being real easy because it was water on the top but the mud was pretty solid on the bottom. As the day went on, the mud got more and more churned up and by the end of the day, no one made it through on their last runs. They also had a kiddie mud bog track. It was no big deal though and no one got stuck that I saw. You would have had a greater chance of getting stuck in a puddle in your driveway after a hard rain than in their kiddie mud pit. However, it was fun for the kids and thats what I think it was intended to be.
They also had an "off-road skills course". It was a track with a series of various left and right turns with uphills and downhills. They had judges at various points of the track and if you went out of bounds they docked you points. The person with he fastest time in each cc class was the winner.
They also had food there, but they didnt serve any beer. Thats fine with me, you dont need to mix alchohol and motorsports anyways. It was also setup as a family event.
They also had a sort of announcer/commentator at the drag area. He would give the names of the racers and tell you who the winner was. That was cool. However, at times when the action was slow, he would try to be funny and most of his jokes really werent all that funny. I give him an A for efford, but a C for performance.
Overall it was a good time. Im trying to talk my friend into taking his Predator down there next year and running the off-road skills course. Im considering taking my 350 Raptor down there but Im not sure. If I can get the clutch and shifter down by then I will take it but I plan on going whether I race or not.
