Hi Folks
I'm going to put a remote start on my 2012 RS Venture GT sled. Yamaha is way behind Cat on this one, along with the electric seat.

I need to know which wire is the tach wire and which wire is the start wire. The start wire should be fairly easy to figure out, but not the tach. A few more wires going to the tach compared to the key switch.

Thanks

What Remote Start are you installing? I would use the pulse line from one of the injectors for the tach signal. Start wire should be esy to read with a test light from the ign switch.

Canadian Tire has one on sale for $99 this week. I made an anti theft alarm system that loops through my groups skis while staying at hotels for the night also.
There are a bunch of wires going to the dash. Which wire is the tach signal? What is the colour on the wire?

Taking a signal pulse from an injector wire for a remote start "tach" signal is not a great way to do it. Have a look at the coil packs on top of the sparkplugs. All three will have a wire with a common colour, and one wire which has a different colour code than the other coils.....this is the wire you want, and the coil you select for this does not matter. This is the best way to grab a "tach" pulse signal for a remote start install.
Starter trigger wire will be easy to find at the ign. switch.
As far as the crappy tire remote start kit goes, buyer beware.

Canadian Tire sells ProStart made by Canada's largest manufacturer and seller of remote starts, AutoStart.
It also sells under the names NordicStart, PolarStart and some older ArticStart.
Nothing wrong with the ProStart. They have a slightly different remote from the mainline Autostart. The module its self is the same.

You can use either coil or injector for a tach reference. I use the injector as it seems to be a cleaner signal over the coil.
On your next install you may want to check out SledStart as its made directly for Yamaha sleds and makes the install easier.

Here's a link to an install manual for a SledStart. This should give you some insight on the connections needed.

I am not sure how the module would hold up in a sled. Snow dust gets everywhere or it would be exposed to a lot of heat.

Just to let you know you will need to make sure the hood pin wire does not ground out or it will not work.

Also when installed keep an eye on the battery, my father's cat has a remote start and it will drain th battery down to nothing if you don't un hook the batter when not in use for long periods of time. Not sure if the prostart has this problem but a new battery is not cheap!

I can't remember if you can program a delay to start to let the fuel pump prime on that remote starter but if you can try to program that in.

It's a Prostart, good little unit.
Thanks for the info.
Should have time this coming weekend to wire it up.

I have worked with the head trainer/tech rep. at DEI on more than one ocassion....there is a reason the crappy tire prostarts are branded differently and ONLY sold at Canadian Tire......you get what you pay for.
I also agree with the point made about any automotive type remote starter having potential issues in the sledding environment.

The hood pin is designed to go to ground when the hood is raised as a safety so the engine is not accidently started remotely when service work is being performed. The gray hood pin wire needs to see ground when going into program mode, tach learn and remote learn. If you go thru the Sled Start install manual you will see where they mount the hood pin switch as a safety when you are working on the clutch side of the sled.

You can program the remote start for diesel mode if you like, its a 30 second delay but you should not need to as there remote start has about a 3 second delay from ign fire up to starter engagement.

As the module circuit board is not built to be out in the elements you will need to find a good way to protect it from moisture.

As far as you get what you pay for, that is true. Go to Walmart and get a cheap Bulldog Starter. Biggest pile of junk next to the old Auto Command Start unit (not built anymore). As an installer and dealer in automotive accessories I have acces to 4 major brands of remote starts. My jobber price on average is less than Canadian Tire's regular price.
The Pro Start remote key fob is a cheaper version than the original Auto Start thus making the Prostart appear to be a cheaper unit.

If there is a spot to mount the pin then do it that way, I was not aware that it could be mounted like that. It is a much better way to go. Thanks!

If you REALLY want to give me the shakes than we can say it together........Command Start!!!!! Ewww.

Thanks for bringing back that nightmare. ;):D
Lived and breathed Command Start while my father-in-law was the production manager there.
I got to know the people in the warranty dept very well. :o|
