As I guess I am waiting 'til 2011 for a new Apex replacement, I need to breath some new life into my '06 RTX. This should be considerably more cost effective, yet I still need the biggest bang for my buck. Has anyone gone to a 128" x 14" extension/track set up? Did it net more top end? Also looking hard at Ulmer Racing's Trail performance set up which includes the Excel exhaust. I would sure appreciate some input from anyone with some practical experience with it, curious about actual gains? trail manors? necessary clutching changes?

Thanks, GNG

I have Allans Air box,PC111 and a 3 degree timing key. I would recommend his ignition module instead of the key, I used the key because it was in the sled already. The best thing you could do is just talk to Allan and he will set you up with everything, It will reform your sled!! kviper

Thanks, I hope to talk to Allan soon, after a few more testimonials. It's not that I am a mis-trusting bastard, I just need to hear what will net me the largest gains from someone who's satisfied as opposed to someone who's trying to sell me the product. (maybe I am a mis-trusting bastard now that I have proof read this).

Thanks,

GNG

If you do Allans stuff just make sure you get the RPM where it belongs, That is where it needs to be for everything to breath. Once you talk to Allan you will know he is not trying to just sell you sh it. kviper

i pretty much had ulmers whole package on my old apex and i will say that it absolutely gets you BIG gains just as he claims!! its not too often we run into an aftermarket company like ulmer racing! i have been dealing with him for about 3 years now and i dont have 1 bad thing to say about the people there or the products!!!

i have a 128" x 13.5 hacksaw on my 06rtx with tracksusa extensions, almost 4000 miles now ,no issues except the track grabs the flap once in a while,im just too lazy to strap it to the bumper like i see a lot of people do,no studs so no problems

Thanks for all the input, sounds like Ulmers has some loyal patronage and is soon to gain more.

Good news, thanks for going to the trouble of posting the pic. Did this net you anymore top end? Are there any noticeable traction gains? Does it bridge the stutters any better?

Thanks'

What idlers are you using?

Those look like the older style Yamaha idlers.

i used those idlers the last 2 years(had to machine mounts for smaller bearing size),this year i purchased all new mounts nad wheels, found the old style aluminum wheels to hold ice build up very bad,not good for my week long trips, not long enough to notice any bridging of the bumps, hacksaw has excellent grip on groomed trails, small top end gain on ideal groomed trails, every little bit helps, running the 13.5 track you will have to widen the metal loops on the top of the front suspension arm,the 14 is fine stock, other than that there is really no changes to make other than the extensions

heres a pic of the loops i was saying i widened, click on pic,i circled the loops in red

Thanks, for the pic. I haven't decided if it will be a 13.5" or 14" as of yet. Either way I will widen the hoops, just to be safe, then it will be off to sandblast and powdercoat for what I hope will be the end of all the rust. I have lost count of how many times I have painted this skid!
