My friends that I ride with have told me that after a long wide open run with my wolvey when I let off the gas a puff of smoke comes out of the exhaust. I'm guessing it's oil? My oil level is fine, it never goes down. If I was burning oil wouldn't the level go down and wouldn't smoke all the time? Could it be jetting? The machine runs strong. I'm wondering what could be causing this and if I need to be worried about it.

Any input would be great.

if it's blue smoke then it would be oil burning which could be from valve seals leaking or the oil control ring on the piston. most likely the oil ring would cause this, but if it were my quad I wouldn't worrry about it and wouls just check the oil level more often.

if it's black smoke chances are you're running a little rich ;)!

They are telling me it's blue smoke. Would a compression check tell me anything?

it would tell you if compression is gettin lower and it would be noticeable power wise too.

had a 1992 xt225 serrow that was doing that when i sold it. bike and motor had 18,000 km on it and it was always run at the upper rpms. i could feel the power loss in the hills on my way to work riding it at the end. kid offerd me what i paid for bike otherwise i wouldafreshened it up with new rings and valve seals.

it mightbe time to freshen up the top end.

you said you had good power yet so you still have good compression.
I would wait for the rebuild until the oil level started to go down.

Thanks Guys, I'll keep an eye on the oil level and keep givin' er. :exc:
