Girlfriend has been in the market for a EPS Vector but I just can't find the right one that is low miles and reasonably priced. She can almost buy a brand new sled from say Polaris for what people want for these things. Question is would you buy a Vector that was a rental sled? I found a few that are priced pretty aggressively even being end of season BUT they are retired rental sleds. Under 10,000 miles but after a few years of riding they will be over. After selling my RX1 with 11,000 on it I know these sleds are hard to sell after that mark. So I feel the resale really drops after that point. I am not opposed to higher miles if the price is right and the sled has been maintained. Just concerned with it being a rental sled.

My search criteria is:

EPS
"long track" 136
NOT red.
wanted something under 3000 miles but now opening search for higher

Rentals in the Northwoods sit outside naked 24/7 in the winter. Rain or shine they see the elements until stored for the summer so moisture gets into everything. I’d buy the the new Polaris if just an Indy it’s hers from birth pick out her own colors. Poo 600 has been a good engine go for it better bang for the buck.

Appearance is my #1 concern. I hate rust. I'd honestly rather buy a sled with 6K on it that looked brand new over one with 2K that looks like #*$&@. I am not very concerned with mechanical issues on 4strokes and any mentaince would likely be done again by me just because I'm anal.

A local dealer had two 2012 EPS Vectors with 500 miles. They wanted $5200 out the door. They were red with short track put we passed on them because they were rusty. Looked like someone towed them with a open trailer for that one top and put them away wet. They were priced right but with 500 miles on them they should look new.

She currently rides a 98 Venture so anything will be a upgrade . We rented a 20 Indy 600 and she rode it the entire day for 230 miles. I told her the first 15 min of riding she will hate it and want to get off but she must continue to ride it. At the end if the day she loved it and said she fits much better on it and loves the riding position. She does not like vipers so Polaris might be the ticket if we cant find a EPS Vector. Probably will do Indy XC 600 137. Those Indy 600 are about $8K new pretty good value. Just dont know about a 2stroke...

2s you need to do your maintenance new plugs and keep your eye on temps and predetonation. Top end when needed when compression drops just part of owning a 2s ...many riders like them. I’m not a fan of 2s but I’m a high milage rider.

That Indy she rented burned a quart of oil on that days ride. $14!!! That's almost half the cost of my Yamaha oil change kit. Not saying the current Venture is any better but #*$&@. High mile riders (not her) probably spend hundreds on oil a season.

My view 2s or 4s is if riding 1000 miles or less a season buy a 2s at 5000 miles sell and upgrade 2s let someone else deal with top end maintenance. Really no ROI imo for an oil and filter change at 1000 miles or less better off with 2s oil expense. Lot of good 2s oil available Farm and Fleet buy bulk. Rebates available as well if you shop around.

I believe Yamaha (Japan) built sleds have the worst paint. I have three, and I maintain a 2012 Apex for a friend they are all rusty. My 07 I had Brian powder coat it when it was two years old, and powder coating is still like the day he did it.
They are garage kept and transported in an enclosed trailer. So if you find something you will probably have to pull the suspension and arms and have them painted or powder coated.

I think you answered your own question. Happiness is key from staying warm to enjoying what they are on.

i would buy one but i would be going through it to make sure it was mechanically sound as i am not as picky on the looks. i would rather it run all day with a few blemishes vs have it look perfect and always towing it back.
