I try not to be paranoid but I’ve been chasing the clutching on my 15 XF 7000 since I bought it with 0 miles. It over revs, I put a DD clutch kit in it and it still over revs, especially in the powder. I went then the bigger DD weights and it still does it. I can occasionally smell the belt burning. The clutches are aligned. I was looking at my brother in laws 14 viper LTX and noticed the space between his primary and engine was about 3/8”. Mine is nothing. I can actually see a groove on the engine where my primary hits it occasionally. I’m starting to think my sled came from the factory with a primary that sits way too close to the engine. Are there any 7000 owners on here that can tell me how much of a space there is between their engine and their primary? I’m almost at the point where I want to get a Yamaha jackshaft and put Yamaha clutches on this thing. Should have bought a viper to begin with but I got the XF for $7999 from a cat dealer going out of business. Couldn’t really pass that deal up. But after adding up the $$ I’ve spent on clutching..... I’m starting to think I should have left the cat alone.

I’m going to say that’s not normal, shouldn’t be that Close , may have got the wrong clutch out on a the factory , maybe a 800 clutch they have a little bit bigger tapper!
We had a sidewinder come in the shop that was over Revving revving and the clutch was rubbing the engine and messed up the primary clutch !

Did the sidewinder that came into your shop have the wrong clutch? What caused the primary to be able to rub on the engine? That’s an interesting point about possibly getting an 800 clutch from the factory. It wouldn’t surprise me. TRF isn’t known for their qaulity control, hopefully Textron will help with that. They own Bell helicopter. You can’t let QC slip in the aviation world or you go out of business fast. Or the FAA shuts you down.

I thought about over tightening on mine, but unless they did it at the factory I’ve only had it off 3 times and I torqued it to spec every time. It’s frustrating.

Mine is that close and has the same wear looking marks on the block....almost 9000 miles, never blown a belt, no clutch issues at all...had them inspected and everything is still tip top. I have no complaints with my cat clutches they are smooth and so easy on belts
That looks closer than on our 7000. I seem to remember a few of the 7000's being that way but never heard it being a widespread issue or the cause.
Are you running the D&D big dog weights with their helix and torsional secondary spring? Which gram weights? stock exhaust? what rpm? Should not over rev with 55's especially if stock exhaust. I just realized you bought the 55 gram big dogs off me. Did you switch the team secondary you were considering?

I have the 55’s in that I bought from you. I called DD and asked if they had some used 58’s or 59’s. DD said they weights do act about 3 grams heavier than their actual weight. So since I did an airbox mod, my track is lightly studded at 1.25”, I would probably want to run 62g stock weights. Or 58/59 DD’s because the dd’s will act like a 62g stock weight. Savageman69 said his primary is the same distance as mine. I want to stop worrying about the spacing since his is the same distance but the mark (very light but it’s definitely from the primary) on the engine from the primary does not make me feel good about holding this sled WOT for more than a second or two. I love this sled, and I don’t plan on getting rid of it anytime soon so I think I’ll get the next bigger DD’s. Maybe even a new inner sheave for the primary to ensure that the clearance gets a little bigger. I am running the team tied secondary. It performs exactly like the Cat secondary with the DD helix and spring. Just slightly cooler in temps. I’ve tried them both back to back and the over revving doesn’t seem to change. I deploy in June so I won’t be riding next winter. Perfecting the clutching on this sled will be my first goal when I get back.
