2016 Yamaha SR Viper XTX SE
I'm new to the Viper model; just purchased a holdover 16' XTX SE. I'm fresh off a Nytro RTX running full excell system and DNF clutching. Only have a few miles on the Viper and come to the conclusion it's a dog with stock clutching. In 3+ years of Viper aftermarket R & D who has the best clutch kits for this model and what are the gains?

Thanks in advance.

I started with COTC (clutching on the cheap). Do a search and you'll find the thread telling you what you need. I have friend with thunder products which is good. I currently have Ulmer's (with a turbo) and that is well set up too.

Take a look at the FAQ's at the top of the page, there's a nice post in there "post your clutch setup" I believe is what it's titled as. Asking for "the best" is going to just open up the wonderful world of snowmobile politics.

Good morning; I had previously read the FAQ but saw most of the information was outdated although likely still relevant.

I should have been more specific; one would assume the Ulmer option would be best as a lot more is happening rather than just changing arms/helix/weights. But in my situation where this is last minute and I would rather not deal with the downtime associated sending out my only parts, is the Ulmer kit and the machining process better or is it equivalent to its competitors?

I understand they are both site sponsors but can anyone provide non biased information regarding both setups?

Regards

i have always liked the 2 speed weights .i run them on my nytro and they are the best for drag racing imho.the viper i have I'm running the thunder products set up .i have both sleds set up the same and the nytro hands down is faster .i think I'm going to try another heel clicker 2 speed on the viper to compare .the thunder products did make a difference in top end though on my viper .just not as fast as nytro with same setup

I also run the Draggin Flys. I am surprised more people here don't run them. I have tried most weights out there( and have a shelf full of them to prove it ) and always come back to the Flies. Nothing grabs the belt like Heel Clicker weights.

stain ,would you by any chance have heel clicker 40/20 weights on your shelf for sale .please and thanks .what is your weight setup on your viper

I don't have any 2 speeds but might have a set of flies for the stock Viper. My Viper is Turbo'ed so not sure if that set will help.

how much you want for the flies .i have a 2015 viper ltx 137 with filters and a fuel programmer on it

What were you seeing for top speed when stock/running the DNF clutching? Also what track length? Where's TURK at nowadays?!?
He was a big help setting up my Nytro. Thinking about getting a new DNF kit and starting where I left off with the Nytro... feel like it should be similar.

I never really had the stock Viper out on the lake. I like to set my sleds up to be quick. I am not really concerned with flat out top speed. I would rather have it pull HARD to 100mph.
Sadly Turk has passed on....

I'm sorry to hear that... he was a great man and asset to the TY community. I have been away from the community myself for a few years.

I myself like the sled to pull hard 0-70... not being able to hit triple digits or close to it is a problem though. I would really like to avoid the 10+ hours of clutch tuning and get it close to start. My Nytro setup was for a shorty so if I start with that I think I will be off a lot. The idea of machining for additional top end and overdrive has me intrigued... just the wrong time of the year to be pulling the sled apart and shipping parts cross country.
