Hi all,
I've found a ton of posts of people frying hyflex's on nytros. problem is all the wheel kits i've seen arent for the xtx and the wheel placement is different.
does this problem carry over to the xtx too?
my SRX was horrible and i simply swapped the 4 front wheels for polaris (1/4" larger) wheels and problem was solved.
My sled doesnt have 4 front boggies on the outide of the rail up front. its got 2 inside where the front set usually is, then 2 on the outside where the next pair usually is, and the next outer wheels arent till at the 121" mark where the rail tips up. all these outer wheels dont seem to do squat. the track clips hit the hyflex when the track touches the wheel. so the wheel isnt taking any load off the hyflex.
should i just try swapping them out for polaris size wheels?
and should i swap all 6 or just the 4 outside wheels?

just buy another set of wheels ,axels, bolts, etc ,mount them in the inside rails in extra holes, worked for me, 2000 miles on my hyfax still going. I went with the yamaha parts not cheap $165.00. but those little wheels don't last, bearings over heat and the the wheel material comes off. :yam:

pic?

do you have a picture of this or can u explain better where u put these? in between the rails, but whereabouts so they werent in the way of the suspension compressing?
from what I can see you cannont run a axle all the way accross the skids anywhere from the front outside idlers to the rear outside idlers. the rear shock and all its arms compress until the upper axle bottoms on the block mounted to the rails. any wheels there would interfere right?

also i've read all these posts

from all that reading all i've found useful is 5 1/4 bolts onto the 4 outer idler locations with no mods. machining is needed to run 5 1/4s on the front inside idlers.

Its still a problem with the xtx unless all you ride is fluff all day. I installed larger polaris wheels to replace the factory wheels and installed an additional set behind the first set of outside wheels. There is already a hole in the rail, the add. wheels go on the inside. You do have to machine your inner mounts to line the wheels up correctly. The add wheels I used ski doo mounts(slightly modified) because they already accept the larger bearing of the polaris wheels and are about 5 times cheaper than yamaha mounts. Go this route and be done with it.

If your looking to add some additional wheels take a look at the photo below - this is where Yamaha lists a set of alternate parts to locate another set of wheels on the XTX skid. If you order these parts directly off the fiche and use the OEM wheels to do it - it costs roughly $180-200 to do this. We have a kit using OEM parts that we intend to market soon that we will be retailing for $67.75 that does exactly this. In our kit we use the spoked style accessory wheels (just like whats on the 2010 models and have been in the accessory catalog the last few years) and a different mount that makes the kit much more affordable. We also will have a new kit that essentially does the same thing for the Pro-Active skids (05 Vector/06-07 RS Nytro/07-09 Apex RTX) and the Phazer skids (121") that will retail for $79.95. Give me a call if you are interested as I have the parts in stock to start doing this and intend to get the kits on our website soon. Thanks

Leave it stock...and don't change the slide....mine wore out in the first 300miles then habent moved for the next 2000miles

Slides are not supposed to wear at all in 300 miles unless the 300 miles were on pavement. Slides ae also supposed to wear evenly and very little. I actually never replaced the slides on any snowmobile I owned before my yamahas. Replacing wheels makes them wear evenly and last 8,9, 10000 miles like other sleds do. Slides that are worn anywhere near the line will come apart someday when you really dont need them too. My wheels come from dennis kirk so 8 wheels cost $160- and 2 bombardier mounts cost $14 and I was charged $20 for machining my front mounts. I now can ride on pure ice or pavement for miles ata time with no worrys or no smell. Once again........do it and be done with it.

There you go!!
This is the exact XTX mod I did last year from various parts.
If Yamaha is now offering a P/N kit, well then you know it is aprooved.
All dealers should be as knowledgeable as Port Yamaha.

thanks

thank you everybody.
I just ordered 5-1/4" wheels with the proper bearing to replace the 4 outside idlers to offer more clearance from track clips to the hyflex.
was going to do the slydogs but it was like 300 to do the same as what i can do for 75 with the kimpex.
see what that gets me then maybe add a couple more with the stock brackets. wasnt really keen on the machining part.

Just saw that you ordered 5 1/4" and not the 135mm wheels. The 5 1/4" are not much larger than oem... I think most people are going with the 135mm to see the hyfax fix.

wheels.

they are almost quarter inch larger than stock. a solid 3/16" anyhow. worked like a charm on my SRX. xtx has a lesser approach angle so we shall see.
stock the wheels touched track at same time clip hit hyflex. so stupid. now the clip is almost a 1/8" from the hyflex, so im off the hyflex most of the time, yet im not far enough off to break mounts/crack rails. the track should flex under impact, and put load back on hyflex instead of tweaking the wheels. if it dont work I'll go with slydogs, they were my first choice but so expensive for a brand new sled with all new wheels....

Those above wheels are only 5.25. Stock is 5.20... you would want to look for something 135mm I believe.
