Sept 2007 issue of SnowTech Page. 49 says:"

Pros: Yamaha belts are hard, Last forever...
Cons. Lots of Slipping, lost of acceleration, lots of heat

They Recommending the use of the Ultimax 3 #138-4432-U3 because:

its Softer, more grip, less slip, slighly longer,Ultimax that is softer and 1/4" longer, this enabling us to get the drive belt to the top of the Secondary Sheaves on the driven clutch. Dayco has a one year warranty. Buy "two" and you have a lifetime supply of belts. Read the back of the belt sleeve, less slipping is "Free Horsepower

So is this true, anyone else try the Ultimax 3s?

I've NEVER had a dayco belt last more than one season - thats why the warranty is for only one year. On top of that, the warranty is useless because they'll claim that it was an error in clutching or use.

How is 2 belts a lifetime supply if that'll only last you 2 years?

I would have to disagree with running the stock belt. Yes, it does last forever, but there is better performance to be had from using the Ultimax. I run the Ultimax XS belt. The slippage is less, and the clutches do run cooler. And I've never really had a realiability issue with the Ultimax belt. I've been running them on my older sleds, as well as my Nytro. I usually get somewhere between 3k-4k miles out of it. I have had one blow on my once, and Ultimax replaced it right away under warranty.

Only belts ever blown was 2 of them, and they were both yamaha belts. Other than that, ran several ultimax's and they never failed me, but do wear out quicker. This is on my old sled, pictured in my avatar.

With my attak, the yamaha belts slip and actually burned a groove once. Belt for this year is an ultimax XS, which will be washed with soapy water first to remove the residue.

Don't know how much an Ultimax is, but I got an 8dn for 44$. I'm gonna try tire softener on it and see what happens.........

derek....lil concerned about the tire softener idea...

ultimax has more performance to offer , is softer and will slip less...less heat...more bite and will drop your rpms some...although the 1/4 additional length helps in ratio...will wear faster...just like a softer tire does..but again there is performance to be had ..

many of the guys who had failures with these squeezed this belt too hard or were out of align/ ctc was off/or motor mounts etc.....and it's softer compound cant take being off as well

***IMHO....never run this belt with an overdrive clutch setup and/or 2 speeds......

Will a Ulmer stage 3 kit eat this belt alive or what??

Please stick with the 8DN belt. If you do want to switch to a Ultimax belt use the new XS model of belts, but you will have to make adjustments to the clutch setup.

If your primary clutch is not adjustable, you will have to shim the spider for proper side clearance, which entails breaking it down with a grunt tool to re-shim it.

Hammer, I want to see you shim the spider on a Yamaha! :tg: You'd have to change the split collars on the fixed sheave to tighten up the belt clearance on a Yamaha.

What do they use the 8dn00 for?

The 8DN-00 belt was used on the Yamaha SRX starting in 1998 and all 4-stroke models. Yamaha has come out with a new belt with the same part number, just has -20 on the end of it instead of -00. This new belt has the edges cleaned up slightly and the top side of the belt measures a little wider than the old 8DN belt.

HAmmer, in all the time I have been reading your post's, I believe thats the first GOTCHA' I can remember LOL!!!
