Did anyone catch the article in the newest issue of supertrax (i think), about another one of the big 4 coming with some sort of direct injection? now i will be the first to admit that the article was in the speculation setion, i just wonder if anyone thinks yamaha would try to go that road...without bailing on the 4stroke tech. also has anyone heard if doo will try to race the 4-tec, so that it competes directly on the track with the nytro...or is the displacment too big to qualify? sorry for the lame topic just not much to talk about yet.

No it would not surprise me... Some of their outboards are 2 stroke DI. It's their own technology. They could make it work. Maybe trying to gain back some of the two stroke fans. That would give DOO a bloody nose.

It is Yamaha. They've been testing it for years.

BR250DI. Hopefully it will solve all the customer complaints about it only running on one cylinder!!

Honestly, I can't see yamaha developing a brand new engine and a new chassis for such a limited market. What you will see is the evolution of the 4 stoke....and of course a power adder :).

Running on 1 cylinder, that can't be good out in the water..

I don't think Yamaha will be doing anything 2stroke ever again, in snowmobiles anyway. They are the leader in 4strokes and I believe there 4 strokes have put them in the number two spot in the market just behind ski-doo who rules the industry and looks like they will continue to rule the industry for a long time with there Direct Injection XP and also there new 4stroke. As far as cat and polaris, I think cat is going 4-stroke, at least since there recent models show that with the jag and Z1 turbo. I think that leaves polaris to stay 2 stroke and come out with a DI. I really could also see cat trying to become the lightweight king again and come out with a DI as well. But I still believe in the future everything is going to go fourstroke whether it is 5 years down the line or 15 years down the line.

Anybody with thoughts on the 4-tec being a race sled. As far as the DI goes, again specualtion, but the article led you to beilieve that yamaha would be the next ones to offer a DI sled.

I HAVE READ THE MAG COVER TO COVER AND I'M SURE ITS ARCTIC CAT. THEY GIVE CLUES THROUGH OUT THE MAG. THEY ALSO SAY NEW SLEDS BASED ON THERE RACE SLED . I WILL TRY AND FINE THE ARTICALS

SUPERTRAX PG. 12 "NOISES FROM ARCTIC CAT" BUILD A SUCCESSFUL RACE SLED THEN TURN IT INTO A PRODUCTION SLED. WE HAVE SAID ENOUGH FOR NOW!

PG 16, WE HAVE FROM A GOOD SOURCES.. WE THINK THE NEXT DI SYSTEM WILL BE A ORBITAL TECH. ARCTIC CAT OR POLARIS.

PG. 29 CROSSFIRE R-1000 REVIEW, HERE'S THE SLED AC SHOULD THROW THEIR NEW TWO STOKES AT EXCLUSIVELY. WHAT NEW 2-STROKE??????

MY PREDICTION: NEW SLED BASED ON THE RACE SLED WITH NEW DI MOTOR.

sorry for the confusion. i was in "the library" at the time i read it and i may have focused on other things.

First, don't consider this any kind of speculation, but I would imagine that Yam could take top position by adding in a couple of 2-stroke sleds. Take the phazer and compare it to an xp600. The phazer weighs an extra 50 pounds and makes about 40 less horsepower. Now think about what would happen if you switched that phazer engine out to a 600 dfi 2-stroke. That should approximately put the two sleds in line and both to about the 425 pounds claimed by doo. That would take away doo's only advantage, and yam, with the proven track record of greater reliability, would be set up well to take the top position.

MARKET MAY SEE DIRECT INJECTION OF TECHNOLOGY
(10/20/2008)

We have it from good sources there will be at least one more manufacturer other than Ski-Doo offering a direct injection 2-stroke by model year 2010.

With DI technology licenses owned by every OEM, we have to think the next DI system we’ll see in the sno-mo-biz will be Mercury Marine’s Orbital technology.

Let’s speculate, shall we? Arctic Cat and Polaris have owned license arrangements with Orbital when both companies produced Personal Watercraft (PWC). In fact, both sledmakers brought direct injection PWCs to the market before exiting that segment of the industry.

Yamaha? Yeah, right - a 2-stroke? Wait a minute… Yamaha has its own proprietary DI system called Yamaha High Pressure Direct Injection (YHPDI) and the system is used in Yamaha V-6 outboards.

Keep in mind Yamaha is a world leader in 4-stroke outboard production but still offers a full line of 2-stroke outboards. Hmm?

DI fours strokes are just showing up in cars starting in 03 now most major car manufacturers have them but it is so new i don't think you will see it for a while due to the electronics involved. I think the next step you will see is variable cam timing to get more power out of the engine.
