How can a firm like Yamaha develope a such a sofisticated snowmobile like the RX & RS series of sleds and miss a few important details pertaining to the skid frame.
1. The slid rail wear factor is the poorest in the industry.
2. Changing the slide rails is real task compared to other brands.
3. The rails aren't even close to being centerd on the track windows.
4. The retaining screws for the slides are in need of a change to a simple
design such as cat uses with push thru bolt and lock nut. Not a costly
fix for Yamaha but sure would be a positive change.

I have heard about all this slidder wear ,but on every yamaha i have ever owned i have never needed to replace them more than once, they wear fast just before the half mark and they stop wearing. my last sleds slidders i replaced at 1000 miles just for a color change, and the next pair were still on the sled when i traded it in with over 5000 miles on it, i don't consider that poor at all.And as for changing the slidders that is a twenty minute job. i agree the method they use to hold the slidder on could be better, but if you use the right tools its not hard to get out IMO.

I got 1400 miles out of the slidders on My warrior before they were just past the halfway mark on the indicator.I probably would have got more, but the last two rides of the season had some serious dirt roads and tar sections that the snow had melted off. If the snow had been better I am sure my slider would still be fine

There are some things that will cause exessive wear like conditions, track tension, suspension set up on any brand sled.

I'VE GOT 2700 MI ON MINE AND ARE STILL GOOD. JUST LIKE stinx SAID THEY WERE TO A CERTAIN POINT AND STAY THERE FOR A LONG TIME. I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN THE ORIGINALS WEAR OUT.

I have 5000 miles on my slides. They are ready to change. If you know
a few tricks they are not hard to change at all. The screw that holds them
on can be tight other than that I dont see what the big deal is.

I agree with everyone that it is not an issue. I had over 6000 miles on mine before I replaced them and I didn't think it was a big deal to do the change.
I have found that they do wear done initially and don't wear much after that. They will wear down about half way in the first 100 miles.
I allways leave my track loose after the initial 100 miles(about an 1")

changed mine at 4000 miles could have went more.
FWIW, the 05 suspension has wider hyfax, and theoretically should wear better. I also hate that stupid phillips head screw holding the hyfax in place. Rounds off, cross threads, a total bitch to work with. Other brands use a nut/bolt and it works far easier. That said, I've owned all four brands, and Yamaha overall, is screwed together better than any of them. Things fit together, bolt holes line up, and fasteners are pretty standardized and high quality. Arctic Cat's always "worked" well, but man, the build quality on those things are 8th grade shop class
