Yamaha Recall

Thanks I will take a few extensions and my torque wrench.

remove the top two philps bolts for the nose cone, take a 3/8 rachet with 14mm deep socket, after removing the nose cone top bolt just pull it back a bit and the rachet will slip right in there prefecetly to tighten the bolt without removing bumper or nose cone, i did it today after i read the post. if u want to loctite the bolt you will have to remove the cone and bumer to make it easy but i wouldn't bother till after you ride, just check it before hand.

Received my Recall Notice today.
Informs the above sleds to avoid operating your snowmobile until this modification is performed.
Your authorized dealer will do this procedure at no cost. They will keep your sled for one day after the job is done so the "thread-locking compound" can cure, as the letter states. It doesn't state the torque setting for the A-arm bolt.

Do I need to completly remove the bolt to apply the loctite or just back it out a bit? I can not see where it actually threads into the frame on the back side of the arm.

09 nytro xtx, in dec of 08 my upper A arm bolt came loose and fell down on the one end and poked a hole in the rubber boot below at 284 miles. Dealer checked all of them and locktited them, however i maybe had driven it a half hour before i noticed it and shock was going up and down crooked on the shaft during this time, i told the dealer i thought the shock should've been replaced too since this couldn't be good for it, he said it was fine. Well a month later damn shock rod busted off the base on the lower a-arm and lost the spring too, sled made a hard right turn from ditch onto the highway and almost got me killed by oncoming traffic. Please everyone make sure and check these bolts

did mine last night...removed the bumper and nose cone...need to remove the bolt completely...to my surprise there was a good deal of locktite on already ...easy fix not worth me leaving my sled at the dealer for 2 days..

Wondering if I will recieve a letter from Yamaha reguarding the recall or if it is up to my dealer to contact me??? If thats the case I will be calling them

I got my letter from Yamaha and a few days later, I got a call from the Dealer I purchased it from.

recall

received my letter yesterday.
going to do the loctite myself, sleds been in my shop warm for 3 days.
rather do it here with no snow then up in maine when i could be riding!

recall

wow is this easy to do. if you have a heated garage, do it yourself!!
all u need is a philips screwdriver, 12mm socket, and a 14mm to fit ur torkwrench.

first pull windshield cowling.
then jack up the front of sled.
second pull 3 phillips screws holding front plastic cap on.
then sneak around cap and remove 2 12mm upper bolts holding bumper, then just loosen the lower 2 12mm and swivel bumper down.

then pull the 14mm bolt that holds the upper A-arm on.
apply loctite, and reinstall and torque. it is threaded into the bulkhead, and u may need to move the ski to align the hole.

I did both sides as a precation. i was already there and it took 30 extra seconds. i applied loctite blue liberally. there was NOTHING on my bolts.

Recall

I bought my 09 nytro in November 2009 and on Dec. 13 after putting about 75 miles on it I was riding about 35 mph on a groomed, flat trail and suddenly the sled flipped and it through me off. Luckily my only injury was a busted up rib (Ouch!). My whole right suspension was bent in and the front assy. I brought it to the dealer, where it still is because they are waiting on the front assy part. Today I get a recall notice. I couldn't figure out what happened until today, but this recall messed me up and I still don't have a sled to ride. Be careful!

SCARY!

This is the first I have heard of this recall. I haven't gotten anything in the mail I just bought my sled in Nov as well. It would have been nice to know about this right away. Wish my dealer would have given me a heads up. Heck I was just out doing 100 mph runs in a field yesterday. If what happened to you happened to me I may not be here typing today. #$%&*

Is Yamaha covering all your damage?
