Western new york
I also live in western new york, but when i was riding in catt, or chaut. county (can not remember) last year there were a few gas stations that when you filled your sled you could sign something saying it was for a snowmbile and the taxes on the gas will go to snowmbile trails in that county. The reason for this is that when you fill your car the taxes go for road contruction and since snowmbiles are on trails the taxes should go to the maintenance of the trails not the roads. Just wondering why this is not more wide scale. If every gas station did this would it not lower registration fees or help snowmobiling in some way, wait this is new york never mind. The registration is going to be $100.00 for the 07 season.
And Since we are paying all these fee's, and taxes we should be able to ride during hunting season at night, I know a lot of trails are owned by home owners but they should have the option to let us ride and state trails should be open at night during hunting. Yes i am a hunter. Like you i have only went 102.4 miles this season and i rode the one day it rained, not the best conditions this year

Our club is one of those that posts the sales tax deferal sheets in the local gas stations. The clubs have to do this and handle the paperwork with the state to get the tax money back. It is a good source of income for us, but you're right ... it won't lower the operating cost for individuals.
I bet there are a lot of people who wished they'd rode in the rain instead of waiting for the first weekend.

The majority of the voters in you state are and vote for left wing liberal socialists (they like to be called progressives). I'm suprised they haven't banned snowmobiling there.
