Rightarm, the M1's crankshaft is not a cross plane like the 09 r1. It is in different degrees out from the r1's new mill. The M1 is a true big bang, essentially operating as a pair of twin cylinders firing at the same time. The 09 r1, is a good balance between the 2 ideas.
Ever since the 04 R1, those have fit me like a glove. At 6'4" and 240lbs, these new smaller every year literbikes keep getting, well, too small for me. I ride a Suzuki TL1000s, and I like it a lot. I have been a die hard twin cylinder bike guy, but this new crass plane 09 r1 really has me intrigued, as it acts more like a twin in power delivery/ traction. I have yet to see if the new r1 still fits me. Ben spies is a bigger rider, and he seems to fit on the 09 r1 pretty well. Granted Spies is still about maybe 2/3 of a horkn, size wise
I saw the new clutch design, and that's great. That link for my yamaha's clutching did not pull up. My Venture works just fine stock. It goes 0-95 or so pretty darn well. It's more than adequate for a 2 up.
The 600's replacing the 250's in GP? I like the idea, but isn't that supposed to happen in 2010?, next year?
I know Kawi is bound to Dorna, but They have not been out yet. Melandri and Hopper are both expecting to sit out the year, or haopper may ride a satellite kawi. But I really doubt a factory kawi will be out in the GP field this year. I think Ben Spies really was on to the diminishing team sizes in GP for 09. I think it was a great idea for him to go to WSBK. Suzuki really messed up by taking crapirossi instead off spies for GP. Plus this way, we get to see Josh Hayes on an R1 stateside in AMA. I doubt that would have happened otherwise I did go to the WSBK AMA races at Utah this past summer. Unfortunately I don't think I will get out there this year, so I won't get to see Ben Spies race in person for the first time in years.
I have planned on hitting the GP at Laguna Seca, and hopefully Ben will be in GP by then.
