Yep, Thundercat has EPS, but that GREY...

That cat dealer is essential up there. He’s saved a few sled trips for us over the years. Supported both Yamaha and cat.

I hope that's not the Thundercat clutch in that picture. Looks way too wimpy for the TCAT. No way that belt is going to work on a power sled either. Is that a joke? I don't even see that working on the Blast!

Looks like they tried to somewhat copy Doo with that thing.

It looks a lot better than that POS power block a few of you guys are bragging up all the time.

Hard to tell in a picture. Would be nice to see it in pieces on a bench.
The two issues it has to solve is longevity and quiet operation. Hopefully Cat has abandoned its policy of having to throw a clutch in the scrap pile because it needs a roller or three.

Ben: The EPS motor itself is the same motor used in all of Arctic Cat’s dirt product. (ATVs and UTVs) The system was designed by AC engineering.

That is a curve ball no one seen coming! Yamaha was first OEM to bring it in a sled. I highly doubt Yam re-engineered theirs to fit now. This means more Cat DNA in Sidewinder. WTF..... Breathe in, breath out. Ok I'm going google now to see if anyone had issues with EPS in Cat's ATV UTV.

Maybe just maybe this is like clutches where they went their separate ways and not like the same gear case.

I hope Cat has done their homework on clutches.

I certainly wont be the one to buy a first yr clutch system from cat with 200hp going thru them...

Maybe after a few seasons they will be proven? But that will need to be proven to most 998 guys first.

Wonder if it rattles???

The new clutch system is referred to as the “ADAPT CVT system.” The main difference is in the primary clutch, which is more compact – both lighter and narrower.

“This is really an evolution of the CVT system,” explained Brian Dick, Cat’s director of product development. “It’s fully designed, engineered and tooled by Arctic Cat. It’s a lightweight clutch shaving more than a pound of weight from the current design, which results in less inertia, quicker revving and better throttle response.”

The design carries over many design features from the previous TEAM Industry clutches, including maintaining constant belt tension thanks to a roller bearing in the primary. The secondary clutch is also a new Arctic Cat design, though it is quite similar to the clutch it replaces. The new clutch will be on all of Cat’s 6000-, 8000- and 9000-series engines.

The oem team clutches on previous 998 cats do work well really well ..imo but there has been many issues with cracking and exploding primary clutches on 600 800 and 998 i have many many pics to back this up.
IMO Arctic cat doesn't want to admit they have a issue and have to be force to put out a recall. Instead they came out with the same set up( roller bearing in primary and 2 peice secondary) One thing with the team oem clutches is most do not blow belts
Hopefully this primary holds up!!

Don't be so sure. FYI, the Power steering is all Arctic Cat engineered and uses parts from the Cat SXS, not Yamaha engineered or designed at all. All you can hope for is it will be better than the kids that works on the driveline and the iACT system.

Read on down when they get to the Q&A with the engineer that worked on it from Cat.

Here is a little excerpt.
Ben: The EPS motor itself is the same motor used in all of Arctic Cat’s dirt product. (ATVs and UTVs) The system was designed by AC engineering. When you look under the hood of a Thundercat, you think nothing else could possibly fit underneath. But in all honesty, the EPS unit ended up packaging quite nicely, and we were able to adjust our assembly processes slightly to accommodate. The calibration was also developed by AC engineering to deliver enough assist to create ease, but subtle enough where the rider can still feel the front end on the snow and be confident in cornering.

I like the read from Kale on Insider... He rode the new Mach Z and did not think much of the Power compared to the TCAT!

From Kale at Insider...

Additional Thoughts

I had the opportunity to throw a leg over the new 2022 Ski-Doo Mach Z for a day. I know this is a unit competing in the same category as the Thundercat and Yamaha Sidewinder, and some of you are interested in it. Ill say this - Ski Doo did a nice job. Ride quality is great, fit/finish is great, but if speed is your master, the Thundercat still retains the World's Fastest Title. Here's something else to think about...

2022 ZR 9000 Thundercat with FOX QS3 shocks $15,695

2022 ZR 9000 Thundercat with FOX QS3 shocks and EPS $16,595

2022 ZR 9000 Thundercat with ATAC and EPS $17,195

2022 Ski-Doo Mach Z starts at $19,699

Fine and dandy until you add freight and setup to those prices. Just saying, not as cheap as they make it out to be. I had a couple dealers add big time on top of those Snomageden prices, so very deceiving. And in reality the Doo dealers will discount quite a bit off MSRP. Sooooo, I wouldn't start with a pricing fight.

Well in Canada, 7 dealers are all at or under full list by $100. No discounts up here on the MachZ. Most are eating PDI/Freight of $500-$800.

Not only do they work really well, they just plain don't wear out IMO. I've seen many TCats with over 5000 miles and the Team clutches were still like new. Spider still tight, rollers like new, weight bushings still like new, etc. Too bad they crack. If it wasn't for that, who knows how long they'd last.

Ya, my dealer is 23,000.00 plus tax for the Z. I am not even sure if that includes the PDI and Freight. I bought a Seadoo from my dealer and I was just wondering when it was in and then I just asked about what they were selling the Z's at and that's what the sales person said to me.

My only thought on the Grey is that they are just trying something a little different to see if it works. Its NOT working.. They should get Yamaha to pick their color scheme.

All I have to say is enough with that primer grey already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG. Preach on!! That thing is UGLY. Why cant they make a thunder look like the RR??? I would jump today!! Really brutal looking thunder cats last couple years also.
