There is a front and back to them. Where they turn up on the end at a 90 degree angle, that is the forward leading edge.

Wondering myself here. I bought my sled used, and when I replaced the carbides I installed the new ones the same way the old ones came off (angle towards the BACK).

when installed, the majority of the carbide should be behind the spindle.

Ditto to what Oak Hill said..... Depending on the manufacturer (and assuming you are refering to the rx ski), there should be a 90 degree bend in one end of the host bar. That is the front. Stock Yammy bars and Woody's Doolies are definitely like that.
As for the second part of your question, I don't think that they can be put on backwards, due to the way they fit into the ski....

Well, I am still using a stock RX ski, but I bought Bergstrom skegs and I don't remember seeing anything that is like 90 degrees, they look almost symetrical from what I remember of looking at them.

The stock ski has the carbide up front with a small 90 degree bend in it. The bend go's up into the ski. In the rear the host bar is angled up so not to catch anything when in reverse. Remember that the stock nuts are metric, and when you buy new carbides they most likly will NOT be! So use the right nuts on the carbide studs, and the metric ones on the two other studs, that hold the saddle to the ski

Oops!! My Bad!! I've been running Simmons on my RX-1 (and Nytro) since day 1 on each and the slightly angled (tapered) part of the wear bar goes in front......but in doing that it puts the actual carbide to the rear. NOW I remembered what 90 degree angle you were talking about. NEVERMIND!!

So the part of the carbide that is bent 90 degrees strait up goes towards the FRONT of the ski, right?

Travis Moore - The host bar, not the carbide.
