I have blown 4 oem belts in 2800 miles. The belts are delaminating, not breaking. Thinking about trying a Gates belt, does anybody have any experience with Gates belts?

Mine was broken too. Yamaha changed the bolt for the 09 models and for -10 they have a new drive axle and new bolt again.

I just got an answer from Öhlins. These are the partnumbers for the Mountain lite. Front YA 720 Center YA 721 Rear YA 722 Looks like your problem is solved anyway, but you might want to upgrade to some real shocks someday. Edit I just saw that Carver has a closeout on these shocks...

Öhlins has shocks for the mountain lite. I just sent an email to the swedish distributor of Öhlins asking for partnr for öhlins shocks. If i get a reply i will let you know.

You have to take out the tunnel protectors. And get some extroverts.

I would go for a 144 Camoplast backcountry 1,75" and Avid 9t extros. Dont forget to trim the rails, or they will hit the drivers.

I had a Phazer FX in 07. Great little sled, very nimble and fun playing around with. But the 80hp is not enough power, traded it for a nytro RTX the following year and have no regrets.

How about Gates, does anyone have any experience with them?

I ride hard, on very beat up trails that get groomed maybe twice a year = big bumps. Maybe the track could touch the exhaust at some times, but there are no sharp edges on the exhaust that the luggs coud hook on to. I have a 1.75" track so if you are using the stock track there would be more...

Just take them out completely. Me and several others have thousands of problem free miles with them completely removed.

Yes you have to remove the tubing and the brackets that connect them to the tunnel. The ribbed aluminium plate that you are mentioning is the heat exchanger, you have to be very careful when removing the front protectors so you dont puncture the exchanger.
