I have 1000 mi on my xtx, and after 400 mi I realize how much easier it is to go fast on this sled compared to the old apex. I was riding with a friend in the up mich. before x mass and he has a new 2010 xrs 800 ,I could run him down in the twisties, and this is the first sled I could do this...
If i was to do it over I would have done Ohlines in the back, and a revalve in the front with the multi rate springs from hygear. I spent $1250 on hygear sport x package and it doesn't do well in my sled.
Iv'e ran steel headers on the racing quads for years and have no problem with the durability.I have the AAEN header but haven't had the time to install it yet. I had the silencer on and the motor did rev 200 rpm higher than stock.
I'm very surprised that more people haven't chimmed in on this or are we the only ones that have opened up our sled and asked what happened to the top end speed.
The 2010 speedos are calibrated more accurately. Other years they where off up to 15mph.It's about time they did something about...

I have both xtx and apex gt,and didn't think I would ever like riding the xtx over my apex but i'm really liking the xtx. If yamaha can get the nytro chassis to ride better, IMO the nytro is more fun to drive.
Won't hurt nothing with plasic on the clips. You may want to update your wheels and mounts,because when you overheat those clips they will eventually loosen up and start falling off, and destroy your track.
Dually push bad in the corners. I like the pilots for the money. $74.99 on ebay each from Honda East. Just use Shaper 7.5 in carbides in the center and some cheap 4in on the sides. It's like adding power steering, without the darting.
Stock are 130mm. The larger wheel won't hurt anything as long as you use the proper mount. On my apex even with stock wheels, my rails started to crack around the single mount hole because of the flexing of the mount. I installed 2 bolt mounts with the larger wheels and the cracks never...
You may want to inspect your coils on the spark plugs. I've seen a post like this before,and the problem was a electrical leak from the coil body to the vavle cover.
I would worry more about the deflection than the hieght in the secondary. I always run the belt as tight as possible so that it doesn't squeel or crawl at an idle. A tight belt will help with a smooth launch off of idle.
I have 900 mi on this set up ,and much of them where on very hard pack and ice logging roads. I have no real noticable wear on hyfax, and didn't have any trouble with the slides heating up at all. These are all 135mm wheels with the middle and rear using 2 bolt mounts. Some people think yamaha's...
