When I was required to get the flash last fall (2,400 miles on sled), the Dealer told me Yamaha requires those bearings to be replaced at 3k miles. Since the dealer could not get to it for another month I brought the sled the 90 miles home. I made arrangements with my local Cat dealer 3 miles...
So why not replace the ecu with their supplier of choice and eliminate these quality issues related to their engine? It seems rational to me to protect their "Brand" image. However, their approach is to let the consumer suffer. I went down that path with GM in the 1980s and it cost me money I...
I hear the faithful here speaking to the quality of Yamaha would allow them to run the business like Porsche. Most Porsche owners are in a metro area that has a dealership that can support that vehicle ownership. Rarely do I see one breakdown even when we track them.
Whitedust makes great...
Finally got the sled back from the dealer today. Muffler & ECU were replaced. Unfortunitly with no below zero weather I will be unable to test any start up backfiring. If the wife will let me go north this weekend I can try out if there is still any backfire after running a grade.
Unless Yamaha was to make some grand gesture to stand behind all sleds (warrant/no warranty), I can not see another Yamaha in my future. This feels like my 1980 GM X body car. GM hopefully learned from that old attitude towards us consumers. How long did it take that brand to recover? Didn't it...
My sled has been in the shop over a 1 1/2 months for the muffler blow (see the post BACKFIRE). I am being told that they will replace the ecu along with the muffler. Unfortunately at this time I will have no ability to test if a new ecu with the latest flash will help.
fyi, when mine backfired...
Still waiting for my sled to be repaired from the backfire over a month ago. In that time it appears another issue is being identified by owners. At what point does this audience feel it impacts their "brand" image for products produced?
I have found over the years you cannot apply reasoning when dealing with corporate. Why should my insurance costs be so much higher using the same company but moving from one state to another? Is my new state prone for accidents or "claims", I have been told no. So why the difference? It isn't...
You are spot on. Michigan insurance is also a drag. Since moving from Wisconson, my rate on auto went up 4x and my sleds 3x. Insuring a Viper & 1200 Ski Doo - $800 a yr for both. In WI (same company) - $260
The starting backfire I had was maybe zero/sub zero morning in Munising.
My sled has always had a backfire when coming to a slowdown after a grade, despite slowing down long before stopping.
So those that have had the backfire and muffler blown apart, what solution did they have for the cause of the backfire?
My is in the shop still and the muffler will be replaced, however that will not solve that this could happen again, likely after my warranty is gone.
My sled is stock, no mods. It started quirky since new but never "required" a flash update until the fall of 2017. I was told to get the flash or lose the warranty.
Thank you for that tip. This dealer is new to Yamaha so they are looking at Yamaha to guide their every move. I updated my post with a photo of the rivets.
Last Thursday while attempting to start my 2015 XTX I heard a loud bang like a gun shot. This caused all the neighbors to look and see if there was gunfire. Left it and used my back up sled for the remainder of the trip.
When I did attempted to fire the sled back up on Friday to move it in the...
