2019 Switchback XCR - Sold
2015 Viper L-TX-LE
2019 Renegade 850 - In the shed just in case

Who is everyone using for snowmobile insurance? I got a quote for a new sled today and am a little shocked. Would cost more to insure a Sidewinder than I pay for my truck.

I used sled ensure....
It was a policy through progressive.
My policy was basically full coverage with the first 2 yrs being full sled replacement if totaled and every year with no claims a reduction in premium.
They are snowmbilers up in New York State.
Can never have to much coverage.
If you ride Canada they also set up your insurance cards accordingly.

State Farm
2104 Vector $170/yr
2016 Viper $250/yr

Try Allstate.

Foremost I found to be the cheapest. One very important thing to note is the CC, Viper more money then Sidewinder too insure, it is over the magic 1000cc mark. Just like motorcycles. I have my sleds and trailer for 256.00 a year with foremost.

I agree, best price around.

Best thing you can do is pay cash for the sled or pay it off asap, costs me $150 a season for full coverage on my turbo viper.

Paid off or a note means nothing on price of insurance, it is the following factors.
1. Your age (58)
2. Your credit rating (which is pure bull$hit) good thing I have a 850 credit score
3. Driving History (I have a perfect driving record)
4. Location you live (Stored in Garage in NE Michigan)
5. CC/Engine size, not HP just cc (998cc not 1049cc).
My buddy has a 15 Viper and me a 2009 Apex both of course paid for, same age, credit rating, driving record, his cabin next to mine in NE Michigan.
He pays 3 times more then I do for same coverage and were both with Foremost. They are the cheapest however the 1049cc is killing his rate.
My 256.00 is for all three of my sleds and my enclosed trailer.

Yes, but you can take the insurance off in the off season or put storage insurance on it, finance company wont let you take coverage off in off season.

You are spot on. Michigan insurance is also a drag. Since moving from Wisconson, my rate on auto went up 4x and my sleds 3x. Insuring a Viper & 1200 Ski Doo - $800 a yr for both. In WI (same company) - $260

In WI Sidewinder and Viper would cost the same for me at $631/YR. I was in the mind of an idiot today. Viper $631 because it is a 1049 CC, Sidewinder the same because it has a turbo. An 850 Polaris $258/Year because of CC and no turbo. The questionnaire literally asks if it has a turbo, nitrous, or a modified chassis. I ask him if I insure an 850 with headers, performance exhaust, gearing, clutching etc., what would it cost, $258/year. If I changed shocks or any chassis, added turbo or nitrous then it would cost almost as much as a Viper?

I don't drop my insurance in off season, never know if I get cleaned out while not up there or place burns down etc.
I had a small fire from wood stove when away at dinner, lots of smoke damage and 19k insurance claim including all new sled gear from smoke damage. Just never know what is going to happen.

Insurance company's need to know that a 1049cc engine is the same as a 600cc 2 stroke engine or close to it.

Just got a quote for a sidewinder and it was $40.00 cheaper than my 16 viper

I have found over the years you cannot apply reasoning when dealing with corporate. Why should my insurance costs be so much higher using the same company but moving from one state to another? Is my new state prone for accidents or "claims", I have been told no. So why the difference? It isn't "no fault" since that applies to autos, and btw, that part of my auto premium is a couple hundred and everyone in the state pays that same amount, so why?

I am sure there is a insurance actuary lurking on this site....
