I'm throwing this in because I had the exact same problem the other day with my Vk. It was not working hard and running perfectly. I stopped for 10 min...and it did exactly what you described... I believe the electric carb heater relay or temp sensor was keeping heaters on when not needed...
Made a short video explaining how to setup and carb sync my 2010 vk pro. Many of the carb sync guages need checking first and if you havnt done it before this video might help.
3 cylinder engine carb sync
after troubleshooting I determined my stator had packed it in on my 2010 vk professional. Not alot of info out there on how to remove or even get at the stator on the big 4 strokes. Here is a video that hopefully will save some time if you are trying to figure the same.

Fyi another great way to start any engine with empty carbs is to soak a rag in gas and lay over the air filter or in the case of our vk ...open the airbox and drape the rag over carb intakes. It will attempt to start many times and speed up the fuel to the carbs
Thanks for the reply. So is it normal that it would be such loud clunk when it does engage after shifting ? Just sounds harsh unless I purposely try prevent it
Hi all. Trying to figure if i should pull the covers off my vk pro chaincase/transmission. its a 2010 and new to me last fall. Im noticing that after shifting from low gear to hi gear, when the clutch engages there is a significant clunk, very loud and noticeable on the right side and ive...
I have vacuum gauges but actually like using my unisyn guage better. I find it more accurate and easy. Just open airbox and check each one quickly and adjust to same. Check your choke. When I bought mine it was running really rich. The choke would never completely turn off. Was always...
So I just sync'd the carbs on the "new to me" vk pro 2010. It was not out alot but cyl 3 was lower than the other 2. So I reduced the other 2 then adjusted the idle back. Well... all I can say is wow ! As suspected it starts and idles much better..but I did not expect it would eliminate 75...
great fix. mine just had a major leak. valve was very hard to turn. I think o ring was out of place. popped it apart, new o ring and lube. all good now... thanks for the fix
My 2010 VK pro (new to me) is not very user friendly with respect to changing the transmission oil. The drain plug is on the inside of the tunnel and there is not enough clearance between the tunnel and the front axle drive cog ... you cannot remove the plug/bolt from the drain hole as it is...
So im making this an additional thread as I have taken the oil level sensor apart and fixed it. My sled is a 2010 VK professional with 6200 km on it. The oil level sensor did not work.
The sensor consists of 2 brass bars and a round cylindrical container on the bottom with a float in it...
Thanks all. That is what I suspected but no matter what I do with the sensor ot always measures an open circuit. No resistance regardless of position. I suspect its toast. I soaked within varsol and I can hear it moving when clean...but no resistance
I'm looking to determine if my oil tank level sensor is in fact working. I have tried measuring the sensor with an ohm meter but reads open at all times. I can feel a float moving on the inside of the sensor but measurement doesnt change. Any help would be appreciated as to how it can be...
so i managed to get the original part number from yamaha online, and enough searching shows that white/blu/white is indeed the correct spring. going to order a new one and change it to see if it increases my engagement rpm. i find just on startup when choking it touches the engagement rpm and...
Ho all. Looking to see what the factory primary clutch spring is for my 2010 vk pro. If anyone can tell me what colour their spring is it would be great. Mine is white/blu/white. Engages very low at 2000 rpm . What do others engage at ?? Can anyone provide info as to whether this I's ok or...
