I also have a 01 SRX and a APEX GT.hole shot SRX some times APEX>>midrange APEX 1-2 sleds>>>top end SRX.both SET-UP the same other than 2-stroke/4stroke.>>>rider weight, transfer rods etc, etc, etc i know both machines really well and I can smoke MYSELF in SMOOTH TWISTIES on the SRX ____________loooww CG;S it RIPS!!------ if i had the chance somehow to race MYSELF hmmmmm.but anyways me and my buddy weigh withen 5lbs of each other, swap and more/less the same thing.love the APEX better tho. :flag: :flag: :drink:

me too same thing, whoever hooked up first wins, but like the apex better.,

My buddy needs to get his srx running right then becase he cant even beat my wifes xc 700, and isnt even close to my apex. I walk off the line and leave him. Probably needs clutch work..

if you come up against a well tune SRX or Viper, they move

throw in some long travel suspension and a 1.25 track in the SRX and the SRX loses its edge for top end speed. I also have an SRX and you can't have your cake and eat it too where as the Apex rides much better without losing out. A lowered Apex with a .75 or .92 track is good for an extra 5 mph give or take depending on other setups.

true, but you could do the same to the SRX or Viper, put a speed track on anything you'll gave mph

I find the stock low lug srx track to be a fast track. I later installed 1.25 track and lost some top end, but obviously gain in traction on snow.
Many would remember the mid 90s when long travel suspensions were starting to trickle in and get popular. At the same time, people were disappointed that top end speed was getting compromised. This was especially true for Polaris and for Yamaha it was proven on the Vmax "XT". Even my tall standing ZX-2 suspension ate away some top end compared to the lower riding mono.
Might be time to dust off my SRX to bring back the old days..

i've been playing around with my Viper, i have so much money into it, i'll never get back so i decided to keep, brand new expert-x suspension, new track pick's, lots and lots of stuff, it is fun to have both the Attak and Viper, i still love the sound of the triple and it handles so good on the trails

Dirty powervalves rob lots of performance, like you said clutch work can be just one of many, tired engine etc, etc>>but STOCK on STOCK nothing done to either the APEX will beat the SRX from bottom to top.1.25 rip-saw on the SRX made a big difference with the addition of the rear transfer rods.i have done a few mods to keep the top end,but like Dano said it will lose top end if its just stock with 1.25 track.the SRX just slices thru the atmoshere.have your buddy look it over because he should be kicking the poopoolaris xc 700 @$$! by the way a switchback 700 & edge-x 800 blew up this past ride.GO YAMAHA!! ;):D  :4STroke:

first run this year my apex left srx way behind . i had just changed to 1" predator track with 120 1.175 mega bites all new bearings 4th wheel kit larger idlers. very happy !!!!! took srx in garage cleaned carbs power valves clutchs went from 96 to 144 studs new bearings . srx has roller roaster secondary not sure about gearing almost no adjustment on chain. srx is a high miler but still rocks . now were dead even again.

that's funny, the big triples can hold there own, pic of me testing my viper this year after 3 years in a coma, she still can run strong with a little cleaning up

Well I took the wifes XC 700 out on the lake again the other day and I don't know what it is but this sled just HOOKS and BOOKS. From start to finish I beat my buddies srx 700 with a fresh rebuild this year and he says its running stronger than last year. But I beat a prox 800, and an rx warrior with it too. It just jumps off the line and they don't have enough lake to run me down where we were.. If I took them out on cranberry with lots of room Im pretty sure both the srx and the 800 poo would get by my wifeys 700... But its fun to go out and get by those guys.... I said "You guys can't even beat my wifes sled... Im not even gunna go get mine out of the garage if no one can even get by the wifes little 700... " LOL. I love F-ing with them about it.. They know as well as I do that more lake would reveal a different story... but its all fun...
