Hey everyone.I am new here, but not new to ATV's,This is my first yamaha, a 2002 Grizzly 660.I like the wheeler a lot, it's a small tank, tons of power.I have one problem.I got this wheeler about a month ago, and when I give it just a hair of throttle, it stalls out.If i go past that point, it runs fine, but if I give it just a touch, again, it stalls.I am thinking the pilot jet in the carb is probably plugged up, as I know it controls the first burts of fuel going through it, after that the other jets take over.I was just going to dive right in and remove\clean the carb, but since I have joined this forum, and seen the wealth of knowledge you people have with these, I would be foolish not to ask for a second opinion.Like I said, if I just "hit" the throttle it takes right off, but if I nurse it, it dies. The idle adjuster has minimal affect also, so I am thinking a dirty carb.Any suggestions or tips ? Thanks everyone! Mike

I would clean or replace the pilots.... I have an 02 660 as well so I know that machine. Also if you replace the pilot to the next size it wont be as cold blooded.

Thx for the fast response, Mr. Sled.I went out in the garage after posting, and loosened the boots holding the carb in place so I could twist the carb sideways to see the bottom of it.I lightly seated the fuel\air screw and found that it was 4 turns out.I adjusted it to 2 1\2 turns out, and figured I would hook up the fuel tank and try it.It made a night\day difference. Now I can go as gently as I want on the throttle, and it doesnt even sputter. What a difference this made! Beats taking the carb apart.I have no idea why the previous owner messed with it, I thought you had to drill out the cover over that screw to adjust it....Now I am going to tackle the next little issue. When it is running, I sometimes hear a light whining\whirring noise from the exhaust. Not a real problem, but I don't think it's normal.Any ideas? Other than that I love this machine. Also, while I am asking questions, is there a speed limiter of any kind on this ? Just wondering what I should expect for speed at top end. Thanks again ! Mike

Glad you got her. The belt drive does whine a little when your driving and there is really no speed limit but a rev limiter for reverse and low but those can be bypassed.
Speed should be around 62-65 on the speedo with stock wheels.

I have no idea what my top speed is yet, but it sure goes better with the fuel\air adjusted properly.I swear, this thing is a small Tank, haha.I am looking for a plow, I found a guy who said he had a moose plow, with the arms and all, but I would need adapter plates to mount to my Grizzly.I have no idea what these look like, does anyone have any pics they would share of what a plow setup looks like, and where it mounts to the atv? Thanks, Mike
