02 sensor which 1 to buy

Where does eveyone mount their O2 sensor bung on a front mount turbo. The header I have already has a hole but no bung. The hole is about 1-2" from the engine side of the header. I was thinking that may be too close to the motor or does it matter. Another thing is that with the hole where it is it will only measure O2 from 1 cylinder. I was thinking it was likely put in for an egt. I was wondering if the collector would be a better location or do you mount them in the downpipe.

Lastly if you were going to only buy one thing would you get a wideband or a knock sensor?

Rx1M5, On My SCRX-1Mtn with whiteknuckle exaust which has stock style rear exits; I went for a location that gives me quick access to the sensor (if I need it) on the hill. Since removal of my BOSS seat takes all of 20 seconds, I installed the sensor centered on the front of the exhaust canister and angled it up ~ 45 degrees up from parallel to the tunnel,. I also cut an access hole in the heat shield. The wiring is all routed between the seat and tunnel to prevent and possible damage from a rotating track and ice build up under the tunnel.

Mac told me that my placement would give me a leaner indicated reading than what my A/F truely is during low engine rpms. He said this is caused by negative exhaust pulses alowing air back in the pipes because it is close to the exhaust exits. Better to be reading leaner than true operating levels instead of reading richer and risking engine failures.

A few things to be concerned with in a front mount downpipe probe position.
(1) Excessive heat +570C (false readings OR complete failure)
(2) External oxygen entering from outlet low-rpm (false readings)
(3) Moisture (complete failure)
Since the choice of mounting locations is limited in the application I would guess that trying to "split the difference" would be best. Say if the downpipe is 24", weld the bung in at 12".

Here is a resource (forum) you can search for applications and answers:
