EITHER CAN IKEITHFD said:I decided to go with the Epert X as soon as I can get the bucks. I can't find much info on them, such as a factory website. I have a bunch of questions:
I want to go with a longer skid. Do they come 136? THEY DO COME IN 136
Whats the best track to run? 1 1/4 rip Saw? I HAVE 1 AND LOVE IT YES
What to run for picks?I WOULD RUN WOODY`S MEGABITES
What type of shock to get?THEY COME WITH 1 SHOCK ONLY COMBO
What am I forgetting?
I can't bring myself to run the old suspension again and want to do it up right.

I made mine into a 136". You are only talking having 7" of extra track on the ground. People talk about the extra push the 136" has. I think if your sled is setup properly, you would not notice any difference. I do feel it gives you addes mobility in the powder. Unless you had two identical sleds side by side, one with a 121" and the other with a 136", it would be hard to know the difference. Just my 5 cents. My feeling is the tracks will get longer and longer over time. There is not to much left for improvements.

Well I finally did it! I ordered the Expert X for the RX-1. I also ordered a 136 predator track and the Hartman tunnel ext. Any opinion on a stud pattern. I think I'll use the gold diggers, just not sure how many. Just so happens its snowing like crazy out there too!

Why would you go with 136? ExpertX doesn't even MAKE a 136" skid. If you went 144, you could have had 1-piece rails.

Because no one told me that. How bad of a mistake is it? Are two piece rails so bad? I just figured I'd go a little longer. The guy I talked to that has it loved it so I ordered on too. No one pushed me towards the 144. I thought I finally ordered the crem dela crem and right away I'm told I got the wrong stuff?

Its always better to have 1-piece rails than extensions. Tail landings will stress the junction between the rails and the extensions. You'll have 7.5" extensions to make that 121 into a 136 ((136 - 121) / 2). The extensions are a weak point. Make sure that they're bolted up REAL good. Be very generous with the loctite red and even put some of it BETWEEN THE FACES where the extension meets the back of the shorty rails.

Why is this news? Nobody mentioned any of this before. Everyone I asked said #*$&@ ya, get the 136 Bovine. Thats the way to go. Right here in this post as well as elsewhere. Now you're telling me 121 or 144 would have been fine, but I messed up getting the 136? I appreciate the opinion, but I'm not sure I agree. I mean it sounds logical that solid is better than two piece, but no one ever mentioned this before and I've been asking opinions for over a year now. Would you return everything if you were me? I should be thrilled that I finally did this, now this? Everyone I spoke with siad it was the way to go!

I didn't say it was garbage.. I said it wasn't as good as it could be.
Boivin suspension
KEITHFD, I just searched the Boivin website. They mention an available 136" suspension at several locations on the website. I doubt very much that they would be selling a 121' with rail extensions and calling it a 136". I'm sure that if you will find the 136 has one piece rails.

OK guy's this is were I'm at. I picked up my new stuff today and I'm happy again. I apologize for over reacting, but this is a huge investment for me and I though I had the right stuff ordered. I guess like everything else it’s a give in take. I also revived the post and my PM and I was told about the two piece rails, but I guess it just didn’t sink in. I recall now being told about the extension kit, but it never occurred to me any other length didn’t need it. I figured I was extending it so it made sense to me. I had no idea if I extended it longer I wouldn’t need an extension kit. Even now that I understand it I find it confusing. Again I apologize for getting mad at the messenger when I should have been mad at myself for not doing more research. I usually do. I will say however that now that I know what I know I’m still not sure I wouldn’t have just done the same thing again. I think the 136 will be perfect for my machine, the areas I ride and the way I ride. I definitely would have considered the 144 and the one piece rails too. Worst case maybe when they come out with the 136 w/o the ext. I can get the rails if I still have any concerns. My buddy that’s going to put it in builds super mods so his opinion will come into play too. When I ask he’ll tell me he can make them I bet. Anyhow…I let you know how it works out. I’m happy again right now. Now what about studs/patterns for the 136?? 8)

ExpertX is available in 3 lengths; 121, 144, 151. All other lengths are reachable via extensions. I don't know that you really want to stud that thing. ExpertX comes up higher in the tunnel than stock skid. With mine, I had to remove the tunnel protectors and mount the skid 1/2" lower than recommended, and I still only have 1/4" clearance. Take very careful measurements and do NOT rely on the install manual for installation as it only correctly covers 121". In addition, don't call them up for tech support, 'cause the guys on the phone are MORONS.
This is what I recommend for installation procedure;
1) REMOVE shocks/springs.
2) Turn the little springs out of the way so they don't interfere with dropping the suspension to full compression.
3) Set the transfer nut on MAXIMUM
4) Drill the FRONT mount holes in your tunnel as recommended.
5) Bolt on the tunnel brackets withOUT the tunnel spacers, with the bolts through the new holes in the tunnel. The back mounts should be free.
6) You'll notice that the rear mount shaft fits nicely into an angle in the main arms.
7) With the straps FULLY STRETCHED, hold the back of the skid up as high in the tunnel as it should ever be allowed to reach.
8 ) Mark off that height for the rear mount shaft and drill it there, then trim the tunnel brackets as required, rivet it all together, and assemble.

Any other bad news man? Now I can't even stud it? I would never ride a machine without studs. Do you ever have good news?? I'll take your advice with the ol'grain of salt. I can live with the two piece rails, but not without studs. This is getting old fast.
