Nope. I just keep adding oil and keep driving the crap out of it. I get about 150 miles before I have to top it up. That is around 500+- miles to a liter of oil. It bugs me that I have to keep adding oil to a 4 stroke but the sled is running great and i am not about to open it up to change rings. I guess one advantage to it is I always have fresh oil in it!!!! One thing that I have noticed is the oil is still dirty even though I am adding fresh stuff every 150 miles, not sure what is happening there! I don't know what the inside of one of these motors look like but I would think it's a bit more complicated that the 2 strokes. If it wasn't a real big job I would consider it. Lots of guys have tried the yamaha ring free treatment with sucsess but it never worked for me on my 03. It is supposed to clean up the carbon build up in the rings and free up the rings and help them seat better. I have also tried to shock it with seafoam in the gas without sucsess. The only thing that is left is to add some seafoam to the oil and run it for a few miles but I am not sure if thats a good idea. It is more than likely the rings so nothing will work except new rings. I have tried 0w40 amsoil, 0w40 mobil 1 and I am now using 5w30 quakerstate high milage and there has been no difference in the oil consumption between the different oils. I have noticed that it is a bit harder to start in the cold temperatures with the 5w30 though so I might go back to the 0w40 mobile 1.
It might be a good idea to try the ring free treatment, if you haven't already. If you have and it still burns oil, I guess the next step is a rering. I completely understand that it annoys you. I went on my first 700 mile trip this year and had to carry oil and check it almost everytime I filled up with fuel. It was a total pain in the a$$. Good luck with wat ever you do and if you change the rings let us know how much work it was, maybe I will atempt it.
