2010 RS VECTOR GT LTX STOCK FOR NOW!
Hello guys quick backround! The sled is a 03 rx1 with 5300 miles on it. This season cleaned the carbs twice! checked cleaned and greased spark plug boots also changed oil and filter pre season. Since the first trip up the sled has run a bit rough mid range it seems to have almost a slight flat spot. It kind of comes and goes not really consistant. Any way point of the story is this week I went up to ride and after about 50 miles I blew out the lower jack shaft bearing and ruined the spedo sensor. I had the sled pick up and brought to the dealer because I dont have the set up there to fix it myself while it was there I asked them to snyc the carbs. The service manager called me back and said the mechanic told him the sled was running rough and he felt the valves need adjusting? He did not sync carbs said it would not help also the mechanic claims he detcts exhaust coming back into air box thru carbs? what do you guys think! thanks in advance jdp!

I had mine done at 13k miles...I was having cold start issues and the dealer did a leak down test and found 30% leakage...runs like a raped ape now.

i find that a bit weird but it would not hurt to check them if you are having a problem.

Yea I think its kind of weird too I guess im going to do a leak down test first Im not having any problems other than the little bog? I still think its carb related? I know there clean but I could see them being screwed up easlily it seems to get worse and worse each year.... love the old girl but its starting to cut into the little time I have to ride. (SR VIPER.....) JUST A THOUGHT! :jump:

When the RX1s came out Yamaha claimed not to need first valve adjustment till 20,000 miles. I had 17k on my rx1 and never had it done. If they get tight you will run into hard starts when cold.

If your getting a bog and carbs are clean id reccomend syncing the carbs, that should be done at least every couple of years IMHO

dumb thought, have you cleaned your clutches lately?

no thought is dumb I did clean cluches prior the the start of season! Im thinking about doing a shock treatment with ring free see if it helps everthing? I dont know what esle to do! the sled is up north and I dont want to haul it home to work on it now season is ending fast here!

have the fuel filters ever been done? after that i would check the fuel pressure on both pumps.

I never did the filters where are they in the tank how do you change them?

Dealer told me that they see sled of all miles in need of adjustment. Some as new as 06. Said it depends on carbon build, driving style and they also said the 20k adj is b.s. the motor is in a diff application than then bike. A street bike can drop rpms anytime and does way more frequently as our sleds are running constantly high rpms. Said a lot of people have no idea they are leaking until it runs real bad.

I am not a mechanic but this seems to make some sense and my warrior runs better than my apex did. Throttle response is excellent and it just runs great.

Yes the more I read I can see it I guess im going to do a ring free and leak down test frist see what I get? I will also check the filters next time Im up!

the fuel filters need to be fished out of the tank with a bent hanger through the filler neck. just be careful when you drop them back in as you can weigh down the fuel gauge sending unit if they fall in the wrong way.
