i have an 05 rx1 with ecp kit...it seems that when the temp gets 15 degrees or colder the sleds develops a hesitation and isnt as smooth.....and the noise from the carbs gets louder.....when its warmer out it runs fine......someone told me that too much cold air is getting into the carbs now.......what is causing my sled to do this

cr8 is too hot of a plug......., cr9es is stock plug, why would you put in 8's?,you will have to put in larger pilot jets if you run near sea level for sure

10s are what made more hp. are you running the pre-filters, and do you clean/oil them? i would also pull your plugs and look and the tops, might be arching. junkie

junkie-- what do you clean/oil the filters with? I thought they were dry due to the cold temps freezing the oil in the gauze??

well i have the k&n's and you have to clean/oil them on a regular basis. i use the k&n charger kit. its got cleaner and oil in a kit. its about $10-15. they are usually really dirty when i clean them. junkie

am i just cleaning the prefilters or the actual air cleaners?

It must be an air blockage problem as the carbs are heated with coolant. Ice building up on the filters choking the sled for air is what I would investigate first.

cold = lean, hot = rich.
Check, Spark plug insulator color. A medium to light tan color indicates normal conditions. If there is a distinctly different color, then replace the main jet.

Did you increase your jet size with your air filters. If its running worse when it gets colder that to me indicates a lein condition. I would try increasing jet sizes and see what that does.
I love stock airbox's for this reason. I have only had 2 sleds that I messed with the intake and I had problems with both. Cotton gauze filters are an engines worst enemy on quads (in the dirt) They let in tons of dirt and the 2hp you gain from the increased air flow is quickly lost (and can never be regained until you rering) along with usually another 1-2hp when the rings get rounded off... I am good friends with one of the best banshee builders in NY. I cant say the same for sleds because the conditions are different but Im an airbox man... (or foam filter)

I'll second junkie here. I have a K & N on my suburban and I've cleaned/oiled it like twice. If the filters start to look dark grey instead of having a slight pink hue to them, it's time for a cleaning. Scrub them with the cleaner, let them completely dry (preferably overnight), and "recharge" them with the oil-based spray in the kit. That'll make them slightly pink again and ready to go.
As shanks mentioned, did you increase your mains when you added the filters? Freddie's ECP kit mandates you switch from the stock 135's to 165's. I did this approx. 2 1/2 yrs. ago and have never missed a beat since. AND I'm still running the same set of cr10ek's. Using the old theory "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

freddie actually installed mine....and let me say i would never let him touch anything again......he's completely clueless when it comes to sleds and ill leave it at that.....anyways i looked at my prefilters and yes they need a cleaning i also noticed that my crank filter is filthy and looks like its spitting out oil.....one more thing, i cant seem to get the sled to rev totally out ...it only revs to 9800 rpm...stock clutch.......its going to a dealer this week to get checked out
