Wifes sled dumped all oil this summer.. I have the oil tank off, cannot see any cracks.. There was oil around drain bolt area. Is there any way to test these tanks? Looking for some suggestions.. Could it have a bad copper washer? Any ideas how to plug bottom hole to fill will something to check for leak?

Tanks are prone to cracking and leaking without warning. Rubber mounts kit is available to help prevent this. My tank cracked adjacent to the lower attachment hole and even under magnification was invisible. I found my crack by sealing outlet and inlet with aluminum foil tape and attached regulated air pressure to small vent. I then applied low air pressure to the vent (5 psi) and squirted with soapy water......bubbles were visible at the crack.

Look here for rubber mount info.

Make a plug with a rubber hose and bolt and clamp it on the lower outlet. Pour a thin liquid like gas or paint thinner in. If there is a crack or leak the fluid will find it.

34pontiac x2! Really nice tank, putting it on sled this weekend!

I had the same issue and discovered it the same way. Found a puddle of oil when moving the sled from sitting all summer in the garage. Couldn't see the crack with the naked eye. Ended up up getting one from same place mentioned above.

Tank all done today! Looks pretty sweet, thanks cfm performance! Old tank had two cracks in it at the lower mount, front one was repaired by previous owner and a new one on the backside at the lower mount.

Looks good. Does it have the same capacity as oem? Looks to have a large notch on the backside.

Is the oil tanks problem still an issue on the 2011 and newer apexs or same problem? Same tank on 2011+ as the older gen apex?

That CFM tank lokks pretty good...just bought a 2013 XTX and am modding it to work well and be trouble free.....was thinking of going with that tank before I have problems as an upgrade.....unless the newer apexs have updated the tank and resolved things???

My 2011 Apex SE cracked and leaked. Funny but I never had an issue with my 2008 Apex ER or my 2009 Apex RTX.

Tanks looked the same to me on all model years.

I used the same one as above, but also put in rubber grommets in the mounting holes to help isolate it from unwanted vibrations.

I thot Yamaha improved how the tanks were mounted in '10 or'11. If not you can get a hold of Travis at BoP. He has a rubber mounting kit for the oil tanks.

Looks to be very similiar, after you mentioned that it looked smaller I held the old one up to the new one and they are extremely close. The new one having the more square shape to it would make up for a slightly larger indentation in the back which the old one has as well.

How thick are the grommets you got? Wondering if I should put a couple rubber washers from home depot between the posts and the tank mounts... Just as a precaution?
