I had this problem whe I first got the sled. Sometimes, or half the time when I put the lever into reverse, it grinds like hell and if it goes in, it pops back out. The first time the dealer fixed it and told me there was a plate that shifted? If I can figure out this issue to fix myself I can save $150 which would be nice.
Now, if you know this is not an easy adjustment and I could botch it up, then I will take it in.
Any suggestions?

Does it grind when you are trying to shift, or when you hit the throttle? If I'm not mistaken there shouldn't be anything turning in the chaincase when you are stopped and trying to shift so it shouldn't grind until you give it juice.

Mine did that also, I just followed the linkage and it turned out that part of it cane loose, (where it bolts together) so I just tightened it up. Simple fix for my problem.

I had the exact same problem. You have to adjust the linkages that connect the handle to the chaincase. One is vertical and one is horizontal. You adjust the horizontal to 27mm between the locknuts and then adjust the vertical so there is no tension on the linkage in either direction. It is in the Service Manual Chapter 4 Page 23. I found it easiest to get the track in the air and test it afterwards. Testing is done with the vertical linkage after you set the horizontal to 27mm. You can feel and hear it going into reverse properly and not so good.
