Last year I had my Apex reverse linkage adjusted perfectly. Over the summer I disassembled the chaincase to remove the drive shaft for PTO side bearing replacement. Without chaning any adjustments on the reverse linkage I now have a binding problem when shifting out of reverse back to drive. The gears seem to hang up after I've shifted out of reverse - the sled tries to go backward when I'm in "drive." Then it "pops" and goes into drive as it should. I have put no miles on since doing this work, this is happening just moving around the driveway. I have not even moved it enought to splash lubricant around inside the chain case yet.

Do I have the forks in wrong inside?

Is the chain tension too tight?

Do i just need to ride it to lubricate everything back up?

I paid very close attention to how everyting came apart and am confident it went back together correctly - it's not the first time I've done this on a reverse chaincase.

Any experience or suggestions???

Sounds like the shift fork is not in the gear.

If you did not change the linkage adjustments, then it has to be the fork. As you install the chain-case cover, you can look down into the chain-case when it is about 1/2- 3/4" from being together. Then you can watch the fork go into the slot between the gear and the flange. Use a flashlight.

Watch out for the chain-case cover gasket. I mis-positioned mine when I was froggin' around with the shift fork.
