Just wanted to ask opinions on my carbide wear. We all know the Yamaha stock skis aren't set correctly for even carbide wear. I also know that Bergstrom makes a shim kit.
The shim puts more pressure on the back of the ski to even the wear on the carbides and the entire ski. I do mostly trail riding and when riding trails, the float of the ski doesn't really matter since mainly the carbides and the keel of the ski seem to be riding on the packed snow. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Here is my question..... If I add washers to the carbide, between the carbide and the ski on the back 2 or 3 posts, wouldn't that push the back of the carbide down for a more even wear?

What that will do, is break your carbides, since the bar will no longer be supported evenly by the ski plastic, allowing it to bend between the posts.

You don't have to buy the shim kit, just make your own.

I used a piece of flashing but you could get toilet shims from the hardware. There plastic wedges and come 4 to a pack. And yes you will shim just behind the spindle putting more down pressure on the back of the ski.

....and it works!!!!!
I used some leftover 1/4" rubber matting from my trailer retrofit. I also now have the hard "plastic" shims from Bergstrom in 2 thickness to try next. I want to see if there is a positive difference to a material change.
An amazingly simple idea to keep the runner and carbide from front end diving into ruts.
Now I have to figure out what to do with the other parts I bought in case the simplest and cheapest did not work.

I really don't understand what the ski problem is. I have 14,000 miles on an 06 Apex. I have stock skis with dually bars. I've used woodys, and just went back to studboy. They both stopped the darting. My friends trade sleds, and are amazed at how my machine handles. I have the limiter for about 2" ski lift, and have beat 1000 Mach Zs, and 800 Doos in a drag race.
I have switched sleds with Buddah 2, and don't think his simmons are any better than my set-up.
