To access the stator, is it just 3 bolts and move the oil reservoir and it's tucked in behind.....is it a big job to change out the stator?? Just wondering if I can do it or off to a dealer....(if my stator doesn't meet the specs)Can't check pickup coil with diagnostics. However, if it has failed the sled should show a code 12.
To test pickup coil , unplug gray and black wire that come from the stator. Use a multimeter set on ohms and spec is 445-545

After the oil tank is off, you need to unbolt the right side engine cover. I usually tip the sled up partly on the left side. I just change the pickup coil by soldering in an aftermarket, however, I don't know your ability. Easier to buy the complete stator from Yamaha, but more money. To access the stator, is it just 3 bolts and move the oil reservoir and it's tucked in behind.....is it a big job to change out the stator?? On the earlier Apexs its not a matter of if, but when, the stators will fail. If you notice on the parts micro fiche Yamaha updated these stators with a new part number.
IMO...don't mess with a used stator or stator repairs. Just order in a new stator and make sure its the same part number as the stator in the 2010 Apex it is definitely the updated one and fits all 2006-2010 Apexs...2011 and up stators are different and wont work with the 2006 - 2010 Apexs

Wired in a used pickup (207 ohms), put everything back together and it fired right up......lasted most of the day, then on the return trip (many stops) it bogged down going across a field....it shut down.....waited a sec and it fired right up.....but as soon as I applied throttle it quit again......then finally when I just let it idle, it quit never to fire again.....How did you fix it? Wired in a new pickup coil?

I seen an earlier post that the pickup coil tolerance is 445-545 ohms......I was only getting around 207 on the one I changed out and 0 ohms on my original one.....could that be an issue??…..sorry, another question.....how do you reset the code outside of taking a post off the battery??
