I use the 500 ohms. Never had one come back. Make sure all the wires are neatly put back in place, so they can't contact the flywheel.I seen an earlier post that the pickup coil tolerance is 445-545 ohms......I was only getting around 207 on the one I changed out and 0 ohms on my original one.....could that be an issue??…..sorry, another question.....how do you reset the code outside of taking a post off the battery??

Fix it and crank the engine. Code will stop showing, but will still be in memory. What's the trick for resetting the code window....battery post?

Ok, my lad just checked and confirmed I am showing a "short" now on the pickup coil.....is there a heat type of shrink wrap required?? Either way, going right back to the start inside the stator and see if I can get my 207 ohms back, recheck the wiring, etc.....it was working so something shorted it out!!Fix it and crank the engine. Code will stop showing, but will still be in memory.

I splice the wires a few inches from the coil inside the engine cover. I stagger the splices an inch or so. I slide heat shrink on the wires before sodering.Ok, my lad just checked and confirmed I am showing a "short" now on the pickup coil.....is there a heat type of shrink wrap required?? If the wire has not shorted, it may be possible that the ECI recognizes the 200 ohm coil as a short. You should use a 500 ohm coil.I splice the wires a few inches from the coil inside the engine cover. I stagger the splices an inch or so. I slide heat shrink on the wires before sodering.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but it's things like this that made me glad I opted to purchase the complete stator assembly using Yamaha superseded OEM stator when the stator in my 08 Apex went out. Fixed it once and done with it for hopefully many many more miles.

I can't really disagree with that, however, pickup coils should not be failing on these machines as early as they were. You'd almost think Yamaha used a cheap aftermarket pickup coil right from the get-go!Hindsight is always 20/20 but it's things like this that made me glad I opted to purchase the complete stator assembly using Yamaha superseded OEM stator when the stator in my 08 Apex went out. And I can't disagree with that either. I was just coming from the viewpoint of using an OEM part to fix the stator issue even if it meant purchasing the complete assembly rather than the faulty pickup coil because although I can handle wrenches and sockets and such, I really suck at soldering and did not feel confident going that route to fix my stator issue. I just wanted to get back on the snow as quickly as possible with the limited seasons we've been having and also did not want to have to deal with the possibility of disassembling everything again .

I believe we used the wrong type of heat shrink which may have caused the short.....We redid the solder including the offset of the wires, used the proper type of heat shrink (even a water proof kind) actually two layers.....put everything back together and now have over 100 kms on it and everything seems to be fine......that's everyone who helped me with this......you guys rock!!!

FYI, my Apex pickup coil failed, i used a replacement pickup coil from a skidoo BRP pickup coil from a 600 Etec ,2 stroke, it does fit with minimal modification and is much cheaper and of better quality than the Yamaha original part or from RM Stator( it failed after a week)I can't really disagree with that, however, pickup coils should not be failing on these machines as early as they were. The BRP 2 stroke uses a crank sensor same as Yamaha OEM part.
(Same ohm values)
the thread is old but if it helps other it's all good
