Last year I purchased a damage 06 attack and replaced the bulkhead. Today was the first time I got to drive it. The rear suslenssion is too soft and compresses too much when I am on the sled. When I back up the snow flap drags on the ground. I need some help setting up the suspenssion.
It has the tunnel adjustable mono shock. When I was removing the suspension during the rebuild I removed the cable adjuster from the shock and the dial may have gotten turned so I was not sure where to set it when I installed it. Right now the dial is maxed out. I have had no experience with this suspenssion as of yet and do not know how to adjust it. Can I just remove the cable from the shock, turn down the dial and replace the cable into the shock. I installed a new control rod also because the old one was damaged. What should that be set at. Another thing that I noticed is that the limit strap in the front has alot of play in it. Shouldn't it be tight.
This is my wifes sled so she will be riding it most of the time but I will ride it on occassion. She is around 150lbs and I am 250lbs.
Is there a link somewhere on this site on how to adjust this susspenssion. I have searche but came up with nothing.

OK heres wher I,m at. I found the problem with the remote shock adjustment and it seems to be working fine now. I have found info on the shock spring measurements, unloaded with the suspenssion off of the ground and then with full rider weight.
Now for the limit strap, I think that I need to take up the slack and transfer some weight to the skis, because it steers like crap and the carbides are fine. Is this correct? This is what I did with my RX1 (pro action) to transfer weight to the skis.
What about the control rod, I think thats what it is called. How do I know if it is the right adjustment.

I pulled the limiter strap up one or two positions tighter from factory setting and adjusted the transfer rod to almost full transfer on my 06 attak. The best improvement was sending in the rear shock to pioneer for a re-valving for my weight of 165lb.

Stomper, I bought an 06 Attak last year and had the exact same problems you've been having: crappy steering, bottoming out, etc. This year I did a complete overhaul on the sled. I purchased some USI Triple Threat Skis, beefed up and powdercoated the rear suspension and revalved the mono.
I have yet to ride the sled with these upgrades on it but I would suggest getting different skis and ABSOLUTELY suggest a revalve on the mono. Just to put things in perspective, the rear shock was valved for a 180lb rider so obviously the sled will sink when you get your 250lb frame on there. The valving for these sleds was to give it a "plush" ride but it really just makes it a crappy one on anything but perfectly flat trails. I also cut the bottom of my snow flap as well so it's just below the YAMAHA logo so it doesn't catch as much when I'm backing up. Just some things to keep in mind

Hard to set up a sled for the wife. She never really offers info on what it doing that she doesn't like. Second she doesn't have any comcept of adjusting the setting to make it better.
Great starting point for mono suspension sled starts in the front end. Get a set of after market skis. Adding more ski preasure for a woman will tire her out. Front springs should be set as loose as possible while still keeping enough preasure to keep spring seated. If she has Clickers set the top dial all the way clockwise and then back it off 3-5 clicks. Lower dial set all the way counter clockwise and then back it off 3-5 clicks. Raer suspension set the limiter strap to middle holes or tight one set. Should be a guage for the Transfer rod in your tool kit. set it in the 1/2 or 3/4 transfer. Spring tension can be done by using the set in procedure. or just go with 2nd or 3rd notch from soft. If she bottoms out keep moving it stiffer. None of these setting will do you any good if the shocks are shot If you don't know when they where last rebuilt send them to Pioneer. tell him how she rides and he'll make them awsome for her. Set the RA dial to the middle setting and let her play with it as she rides. Smooth trails set it soft. rough trails set it hard. Flap needs to be cut just a little under the Yamaha logo so it doesn't catch while backing up.
