Well, it's getting to be that time. With 13,000 miles, it's just a matter of time before the common high mileage things start to happen. Being the proactive (not pun here) type, I want to check and fix the know issues before I have to get towed home.
I'm looking for any input from anyone that knows anything about everything that I should check! One concern is corroded ground connections. Can anyone tell me where to locate these points in the harness so that I can fix them now?
Here's what I've done so far:
- All bearings including drive shaft and jack shaft, chain case, etc
- Oillite A-arm bushings
- Skid rails
- W-arm reinforcement
- Pivot arm replacement
- Track
- Skis
- Brake pads
- Exhaust o-rings
- Cam chain adjuster
- Oil tank mounted with rubber o-rings to prevent cracking (so far so good)
- Chain case cover to prevent leaks around the cover gasket
- Shock revalve and 2 rebuilds
- Carb air screw adjustment and sync
- Clutch weights
- Of course, the normal stuff: slides, skid wheels & bearings, carb cleaning, grease, oil changes, belt, etc
Here's what I plan on doing this summer
- Steering bushings
- Maybe the stater or at least look at it
- Exhaust o-rings again
- Brake pads again
- Chain
- General tear-down and inspection to look for anything visible. Cracks, missing bolts, wiring issues, etc
- Of course, the normal stuff: slides, skid wheels & bearings, carb cleaning, grease, oil changes, belt, etc
I've only ever been towed once, last year when my drive shaft broke... and it wasn't a good feeling. The Doo guy that towed me used my camera to take the pictures... Classic!
