Hello ,

1st post here but wont be the last, I'm back into snowmobiling after a 15 yr hiatus and after restoring a 93 indy trail last fall I'm going to be looking for a yammi 4 stroke, I came across this one about 40 minutes from me and spoke with the wife in regards to price, she gave me the husbands number and said he would discuss price in person if I came to look at it, the jd power blue book value for an 05 rage is around 1165 usd... this sled is in pretty darn good shape but 4.3k usd seems pretty high and am really wondering what I should offer for it, it states it's never been back to the dealer so I'm assuming it still has the defective cam tensioner which would be needing to be replaced. I also noticed it's been on marketplace for 51 weeks which kinda tells me the guy is unwilling to budge on price....

What do you guys think ? Any insight is greatly appreciated

Furthermore, that's the era of 973cc engines that suffer from timing chain tensioner failure (2005-2007) And I'm sure it's never been updated to the new style.

Stay away from it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm ok with changing the tensioner out, it'd be a good way to reduce the price a bit, let's say it does need it replaced, with that knowledge what is a decent asking price for the sled in your opinion? I mean I could deal with 2 or 2.5k ..... it seems clean, with only 3k miles the thing is barely broke in .....

That being said he has two posted, an 06 apex and rage and both are 4 +k and both have been listed for 51 weeks.

I think the guy thinks they're worth there weight in gold otherwise they'd have been gone a long time ago

Yes, I'm right there with ya, that's a $2500 sled. Don't care how clean or low mileage it is. They aren't desirable, seating position sucks, again, possible timing tensioner issue.

Oh, and that era also had a weak stator that loved to fail.

Personally, I'd look for a 2010+ Vector if a Vector is what you're looking for.
 
$2500 is all i would offer him. odds are all the shocks need servicing as well as the tensioner as all the nitrogen will probably have leaked out.
 
Sled looks to be in near brand new condition. There could be a few issues, nothing insurmountable. If you are coming from an older style sled, the riding position should be good for you. I would prefer a different colour, but that's just me. These sleds run for a very, very long time if taken care of. $2500 usd would be a steal for this sled in that condition. Start it up on a stand and see how it runs. If absolutely no hesitation in those three cylinders, make a decent offer to him in cash, and see how it plays out. 4.3 k usd seems too much. I have an 06 Vector with nearly 50,000 kms on it, which I bought new, but what I know now, I should have bought a Rage. Happy trails.

Thanks for the reply, this is a rage but he has an apex too, 4k miles, has a gps and a egt gauge but i figured the rage would be better for the longer track, would the apex be a better deal in your opinion? theyre both the same price

Sled looks to be very nice, that being said, for $4200 you can get something more modern.
 
Apex definitely has more power, but with it being a four cylinder, it is heavier and harder on fuel. It does have a shorter track compared to the Rage as well. That 3 cylinder genesis engine works well in that sled, easy to maintain, and gets great mileage too and runs on regular gas. No sled is perfect, but will be easier to maintain than the Apex. There are a lot of used sleds out there to choose from. The four strokes are excellent choices if you go on long trips and put lots of miles on them. If you are the type to just go out for a day or afternoon, I would be looking at a lighter and newer 2-stroke sled.
 
Yeah they upped the price 100 bucks on the rage yesterday morning so I created a throwaway and offered them 2500 cash for the apex...... stated the case for my price and gave them a link to the value..... I must have the had the best timing ever cause its been up for 52 weeks and I chose to offer them a price.... within 10 minutes the wife said they just sold it for 5k minutes eariler........... I said thats amazing considering it was only listed for 4400 and I told them they were full of #*$&@ lol ..... I dont want the rage and after hearing the bs they told my throwaway i'm sure if i offered them 2500 for the rage it'll magically sell in minutes too....... I figured it was that the guy thought it was worth its weight in gold ......

I'm stalking marketplace and just waiting for the right deal within a few hundred miles to show up......

I've flown across the country for the right deal before, So honestly for a great deal I'd be willing to travel.

I know I've been making lots of offers locally and all I can say is that people here in michigan are smoking lots of legal cannabis..... Cause it all seems to be the same thing, 12+ yr old sleds and asking 4 and 5k for them.... marketplace has ruined the 2nd hand market for everything
