6500 miles, rolling at about 35 then squeeze on it to get er done and RUMBLE, RUMBLE...no brakes!
had to be tow'd in, that was emberassing to say the least, luckily my nephew was with me with an Apex so at least i was tow'd in by one of our own!
anything i should know before i dissasemble?
thanks,
dave

ouch! I got 4000 miles on mine and have been wonding about the shaft. I just changed out my track and new extrovert drivers, the only thing i can tell you is paitence, and..... you gotta take off the entire chain case. happy wrenching

its not much more work than swapping a track, will need a press to change the drivers and all the specs, sometimes, the dealer will do it for free when you purchase all the parts from them, dont forget to replace both bearings, speedo and chaincase side,it looks worst than it is,but still a pain,i'm actually waiting for an answer from cr on sledtalk about this common problem, hopefully he can help us out

if it has yes warranty take it to the dealer its covered

Yeah I would like to know if the 2009-2010 driveshafts had any updates and if they will work on the older (06-08) sleds. 11,000 miles and hoping to make the rest of the year, but I know I am on borrowed time! :die

Mine just went at 12,000 miles. Got towed back to truck by a Ski Doo.

12,400 - Y pipe cracked.

12,500 - Shoe ramps on secondary clutch are shot.

I've been doing a lot of wrenching lately....Still cheaper than a new one!!!

no warranty on mine!
we will rip her apart today.
just something that i would never expect to brake!
just another way to get to know the sled more intimately.....lol

Dave, maybe you could do a FAQ step by step like have been done for the exhaust donuts, it would be a great help to us who haven't done the driveshaft yet but inevitabely will be doing it.

:yam:

Did some research on Port Yamaha and noticed the part # for 06-09 is the same. Price is around $121.

The 2010 part # is different, and the price is around $187.

Does anyone know the difference? I realize the 2010 has extrovert drivers, but not sure of other differences.

If the 2010 part is beefed up and you can use it on the 06-09 sleds it would be nice to know, especially for those of us who are going to repair/replace

shaft

If you change the secondary side drive bearing every 4000miles you wont have any problem with the shaft. My buddy has 20000miles on his 05 RX1 turbo and never chance the shaft or the drive chain.

my secondary side bearing has been well greased, the shaft broke right at the rt side locking collar, pictures to come shortly.

as for a step by step, i guess it's not too late...lol...i have it torn down , and enough other stuff removed to do the y-pipe to boot!

looking at the rust at the brake, i am wondering if it has been stressed for a while.

and for those who don't do their own repair work, a little insight as to what actualy happens when they have to tear it down to fix something like this or the exhaust donuts or y-pipes.
