07 Yamaha Phazer (holy crap I need help)

No appologies needed after all im the one looking for help.

big reason i am interesed in this mod, is when my wife hopped on the phazer, her complaint was in the hard steering (similiar problem on the vector but more forgiving for her)

I didnt notice the hard steering as much, and the Phazer would really be set up for me, but she is also interested in banging on the rougher trails every now and then.

This would be a mod after i set the sled up. I just didn`t want to do a mod that is nothing more than a "tinker for an hour" mod. with no results

RIGIDONE Absolutly DID invite me on a ride, that included an offer to help with my set up.

Gota give the guy credit. he was willing to interupt his own ride to help. WAY COOL.

Shoulda went with us to Mexico Saturday, we all would've helped or broke your cohones LOL!
Could have gotten a lesson from Tony on how to "ride by the rope" as I did ;)!
It worked again on Sunday...

Wish i could have, Sled went to the dealer on Friday, wont get it back until this Friday (cold weather kit wont be in until thursday) all other updates and recalls are in process. Ill be spending this weekend shimming the skis, putting in UPbushmans kit, OFT steering block, alignment, checking all steering bolts .....bla bla bla

Mexico is only about 2 1/2 hours from me. hopefully be heading there if there is still snow when im done.

I may be wrong but aren't the skis on the phazer saddleless? The rocker mod looks like it would work on the older trailing arm skis with the big metal mounting plate.

My bad, only gave half the story.

I planning to shim my OEM ski`s, plus a set of USI Ski`s with Yamaha mounts that i was planning to try this mod on. Last i have a set of presision skis off of our Skidoo Legend that i plan on trying on the sled.

What set up i like best i plan to use.

If you still have the narrow stock skis on I can understand the hard steering because they dig in and make grooves and also are very difficult to steer out of other rider's grooves. Also there is practically no carbide on the stock ski. Wider skis will help on the soft trails in those cases and better carbides will help with steering on harder trails.

BombaPolaYama,

I was running OEM ski`s and Studboy 6" dooley's. I am thinking i might be better off running the SkiDoo precision ski`s, but i will welcome you opinion.

Hey knied1 thanks for the info supplied above looking to hear back on your findings. It's always seems easier for some to make something to save a buck once they have seen it. With time invested it's easier to purchase it from someone else because time free or not is worth money. I beleive in suppling great proven products at a reasonable price. I have over 4000 miles on my original R&D kit and it is the same as the day it was put in. Thanks again for buying the product and the info that will follow.

OK I got the sled back tonight and I know a few of you guys are wondering what my last few post are about, and quite simply. I have read post after post about tightening up the free play, and yes I am sure you know what you are talking about, but the only two questions I had that I could not find the answer to were. Why spend money on parts that I know I could make? And just how much of a difference will this mod make. So actually these posts are more for the next guy in line who has this issue.

That said. I measured the free play with my brand new OEM bushings. I simply laid a tape measure on a piece of luan, and took a measurement from the bottom of the swing, then moved the bar until the free play was taken up.
I ended up with just over 1/2 inch of free play. Then I put the Bushings in and repeated the same procedure. This time I had just under 1/4" of free play. Considering this was a new to new comparison, I am impressed with UPBushman`s setup. Now I installed the steering block from OFT, there really was little improvement in the free play, but the steering felt stiffer, but not stiffer in a bad way. My old steering block looked new, or at least in great shape so I`m not surprised there was not a measurable difference, but I do like the feel allot better, Again like UPBushman the machine work by OFT was real quality, and more than worth the cost.

The only thing now is I did realize the ski bushings do have play to them. I think my steering bushings were so bad before I had the recalls done that I didn’t notice the slop in the skis. I figure it does no good to re-align the sled until I replace them. My a-arm bushings are real solid, so I hope the last thing to replace for a wile is the ski bushings.

What's a "luan"?
It just goes to show you that if a small (in comparison) place like UP can build a product that is 50% tighter tollerance then Yamaha Motor, i think it's pretty pathetic, and why cant they add some more grease from the factory!!!?
All manufactures too, not just Yamaha.

Forgot the o...I ment louan (sub floor) i had a piece left over from some home projects 12" X 72" and laid it under the handle bar on some shop horses to support the tape measure.

I dont think im going to stand in front of the lathe to make my own ski spindle bushings. (broke my wrist at a lacrosse tourney yesterday)

I will most likely get UPbushman`s but other than the obvious OEM, are there other options?

Its obvious that i can`t go wrong with UPBushmann, more or less just curious
