Hey Guys,
My sons 08 is getting oil in the air box. After 100 miles or so it will be down 1/2 to 1 qt.
Any idea what causes it?

Engine doesn't like to be right on full of oil. It will spit it rough breather tube into air box.

He is checking it with the dip stick "not" screwed in and engine up to temp? Otherwise you would be overfilling it.

Also if that sled is laid on its side, oil flows into the air box.

Dip stick not screwed in when checking. I will make sure we fill a little low and check it after the next ride. Hopefully in a few weeks.
Normal riding the last few rides we went on.

I have an 08 but I have never had that problem. I too don't screw my dip stick down when checking. I thought I heard somewhere that's how your supposed to check it.

That is correct, do not screw dip stick in when checking oil level. But that would just mean you would be that much more under full if you did check it this way, so I don't see this as your problem. Sled has to be warmed up before you get an accurate reading though.

Owners manual explains process for checking oil. If he doesn't have one he can download one for free on the net.

shop manual state: dip stick should not be screw in to verified oil level and level should to midway between low and high to leave room for liquid expansion. your motor might starting to wear piston ring wise and your experiencing exessifve blow by performed compression or leak down test for peace of mind..... hopefully you lean heron one side for to long or she was a bit overfilled
