Sounds like an arm stretching torque monster...we'll see if it's all hype...or if the press guys rode a "ringer"...(remember the Viper)
It all sounds great!! Can't wait for the 25th.
Looks cool,
I will wait til I see all the specs befor I get to excited. If this new sled comes in around 500-520 ibs and they dont add on some hp to the APEX for 08, then I dont see a good reason to buy the APEX.
To me If you consider power to weight and handling, the APEX would seem a bit out dated next to the new sled.
The new SKI-DOO at about 430 lbs and 150 hp should kick butt. I think that is going to be the top 08 sled this year. ( if it holds together)...

1050cc could be an issue cost wise with insurance rates.

And this is what i just posted in the "rev" thread:
Again...let's wait and see what the new Exciter? FX130? is. I'm guessing there is no way in hell the XP is 425 lbs. As somone just posted in another thread on this page...if a sled is TOO light, it is also jittery. Let's say the Doo is 440 lbs dry, vs a 490 lb Exciter that accelerates just as well. Given Doo's less than perfect track record with reliability, I know where my money would be.
Not bashing the Doo, btw. I am very impressed. But I do not think it is the second coming quite just yet. We will know more tomorrow.
I think there will be at least 10 lbs dropped and 10 hp added to the Apex. Still not as impressive as the Doo, but there is no way Yamaha is going to be so short-sighted as to make their big dog obsolete.

Is this new motor based from something Yamaha already produces or is it a brand new design? I gotta imagine it has EFI...that's almost a neccessity on all four strokes now.
Why anyone would want to get rid of engine braking is beyond me. One of Yami four strokes best features. It has saved my A$$ more then once. I love engine braking!

I agree totaly.
I put a clutch kit in my 800 Rev. It now does not have any engine braking anymore. I rode yesterday around the field and had to use the brakes more than ever. Boiled the brakes twice.(I bleed and added new Dot 4 fluid)
Quite the feeling to have the lever go to the bar at speed!!!!
ie. pump the level VERY fast.... Either that or use the trees to slow down.
So, I hope they beefed up the brakes cooling up to compensate for the lack of the very desirable(to me) engine braking.
If they beef up the skids wheels, control the Hyfax issues, Ice Buildbuild issues , Storage considerations, -> 1.25" track minumum , add full size heat exchangers..... I'll be getting a fx version in the fall!

The 1st time I rode the Phazer (1st time on a 4 stroke as well) I thought this engine breaking sucks. It is going to throw me over the handle bars one day. But as I get used to it I absolutely love it. It is great in the tight and twisties. Great low end acceleration and when setting up for the turn you just let off the gas. Don't even need to touch the break. I don't think I would want a sled without it now.

1. I can't wait to see what they have for 2008.
2. An 06 Rage is my 1st 4 stroke and I wouldn't do without engine braking at this point.
3. Why a 1050? the 973 is great and only would be better with EFI and that alone should get it to 130hp.
4. My Insurance company will love anything over a liter.

The 1050 is the 973, just with some modifications to the bore/stroke I guess.

As far as insurance goes, it doesnt seem to matter much, i think my coverage per year on 07 attak and 05 vector is less than 400 bucks.... remember it is a 4stroke, not a 2 stroke, i think they take that into consideration. Just like in drag racing, an apex is i beleive classed with the 600 2smokes.... should be same consideration with insurance.

With no engine braking, They must have got that from Arctic Cat. Their Jag Z1 doesn't engine brake because of some gear or something like that. I never even seen one of those things on the trails yet.
that new jag z1 isnt a 4 stroke any way thats y it dosnt have an engin brake
